I’m not a fan of NL Times editorialising their headline by including “prior brain injury”, because the top comments are already latching on to this. NL Times does no original reporting and basically just translates Dutch sources, in this case mostly the Nieuwsuur reporting from earlier today. Nieuwsuur clearly portrayed, even including it in the headline, his desire to live the easy life in a nice prison as the main driver, not some mental health episode. He talked about wanting to do this frequently and planned it out by researching the laws of different countries. He made up a lie about visiting his mother to get a short leave and then beelined for the Netherlands. This whole incident is clearly thoughtout and deliberate.
