      No porn. No encryption. And soon no social media. While there’s an argument to be made regarding keeping children safe, I’m concerned that “think of the children” is being used as a bad-faith attempt by certain actors to erode our civil liberties. Even more concerning is that this is happening Europe-wide.

      on the other hand, in the US anyway it’s not possible to get anything like actual news without social media.

      Someone help me make sense of this. What is the definition of social media? Is discord one? Can kids text and speak while gaming? How about youtube? Imgur? Deviantart? Just any forum? Do they want to just ban the biggest platforms? How can you prevent the harm of social media while allowing them to use the internet? Wouldn’t they just find and use other sites or apps for whatever they wanna do?

      Is this going to be like Australia where everyone has to install a spyware to their devices to prove that they are of age to use certain software? Once again, the government is pushing this narratives that they are doing all these to protect children. No encryption, no free web, no social media, all in the name of “protecting the children”. Yeah, I think we saw this movie a couple of times now.

      Good luck with that. How in the hell are you going to enforce that? Require people upload some form of ID? Use Credit cards?

      Maybe we should just ban all the big social media platforms in general. I will miss reddit, but it might be a necesarry sacrifice necesarry to save us from tiktok and twitter

      Social networks do nothing but waste time of millions of ppl only to give Meta some data to improve, nothing of value will be lost by restricting them.

      Add to this that they violate EU rules every other day and you get all reasons you need.

      They are OK with it.

      MOst kids just do group chats now. It is their social media now !

      Telegram as the platform has also social media functionality.

      Basically social media is migrating into chat apps. It would be impossible to ban messaging !
