The police unions conveniently forget that one legal basis to keep someone in custody is to ensure that they don’t temper with evidence or try to influence potential witnesses.
It makes perfect sense to prevent the policeman and his colleague in the car to be able to talk to each other to “get their story straight”, or to try to use their contacts within the police force to influence the investigation or obtain leaked information. It’s obvious there’s a risk of collusion.

Hij achtervolgt een kleine van 11 jaar door een park en rijdt hem dood op het gras, dat hij psychologische hulp nodig heeft lijk mij een understatement. Het feit dat de politievakbond hem dan verdedigt of andere agenten met soortgelijk losgeslagen geweldadig gedrag lijkt mij net de reden dat die kleine met schrik wegreed.
