In fairness, alcohol affects your ~~special~~ spatial awareness. Not all drugs do. I’m not saying that it’s ok to drive stoned, but to blindly say they are all as bad as each other is not scientific.
> Detrimental effects of cannabis use vary in a dose-related fashion, and are more pronounced with highly automatic driving functions than with more complex tasks that require conscious control, whereas with alcohol produces an opposite pattern of impairment. Because of both this and an increased awareness that they are impaired, marijuana smokers tend to compensate effectively while driving by utilizing a variety of behavioral strategies

“I don’t notice my mistakes when my perception is impaired”.
About the same logic as “Autism became more common since we started testing children for it.”
At a very very basic level of being fair it should never be if you drive better under the influence of anything
There has to be even playing field, so if there is an accident, someone is hurt, killed, both parties are clean of drink and drugs.
People confidence and certain skills may go up or down when under the influence, but how you control that at a correct level is impossible, so it can never work.
That’s been common for decades, young people are inexperienced and come up with crack pot ideas, what a revelation!
All my mates and I fully thought weed made people better drivers in our teens
It’s not all that new, I remember 10 years ago having a conversation with someone who drove motorbikes and he said to me he’s a better rider when he’s had a few drinks because it forced him to actually concentrate more on what he was doing. The conversation ended shortly after that.
I’ve heard the exact same statement out of drivers who used to drive drunk. The substances change, but the responses remain the same. We’ll probably get someone tryng to convnce us that they drve better when texting too.
Drugs is a very sweeping term.
Downvotes incoming I drive better when I’ve had my legal medical cannabis I’m up north for clarification but I’m not just saying it because I’m more relaxed I’m concentrating way more and I’m a genuinely good driver when I’m medicated.
All this being said I’ve driven once with alcohol and pulled over as I couldn’t do it. And I’ve taken other “drugs” and definitely shouldn’t have been driving….
Blanket statements like this do nobody any good. Shoutouts to all the families that lost loved ones around the world this year after getting skittled by someone on “drugs” that thought they were playing the new mario kart irl.
