Sums it up pretty well, i think.

Whether “Litvinism” is actually but a weapon in Kremlin’s playbook or not – is almost irrelevant.

What’s important and relevant, however, is that it spreads unnecessary hatred between two nations, fuelled by a nationalistic loud minority from both countries.

We’ve all seen Lithuanians aggressively claiming that the GDL is undeniably and entirely Lithuanian, and we’ve all seen Belarusians claiming the opposite with similar aggression.

It’s important for all of us to remember that the GDL, as mentioned in the article, is indeed a state that can’t be seen or comprehened, if viewed through lenses of modern nationalism.

And it’s even more important to step spreading unnecessary rivalry and hatred by claiming that one or another country is the GDL’s “rightful successor”

Instead, perhaps, it’s better to acknowledge, at long last, that both the modern state of Lithuania and the modern state of Belarus draw their origin from the GDL. And that the GDL holds an equally rightful and equally important place in the history of both countries.

We’re neighbors, after all, and we have a very colourful shares history. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be on good terms with my neighbours.
