Because all the budget goes on outsourcing and admin instead of the actual services.

Currently they’re hitting 60% of patients treated within 18 weeks. They expect to hit ~80% by the end of this parliament. The target is 92% (which seems oddly specific).

That still seems like significant progress to me. Can we do better? Sure, but that’s kind of the point. Targets are made to be missed – you should set them ambitiously so people have to put in work to meet them, not just cruise along largely as they were before.

My missus discovered a huge lump in her breast, and it’s been six weeks and still not got to see anyone beyond the GP.

The target for this is 2 weeks, pref much sooner.

It’s utterly absurd what it takes in this country to either go to a doctor or the hospital to achieve remedy for non-emergency stuff that either impacts work and/or doing everyday stuff.

Something debilitating but not a crisis event.

It’s like the average GP just doesn’t give a shit about people with issues like that. They’d rather ‘you’ just stop calling to make an appointment and piss off.

No shit lol we have limited amount of hospitals, but number of people keep increasing. Supply and demand is complete out of the equation atm.

    6. I mean, this is now the 3rd month of waiting for a phone call from a specialist to give me the result of a test that has been in their system since a couple of days after I had it done…

      Yeah-

14 yrs of neglect and business mutilation doesn’t get fixed in 14 months.

This will take a while to fix

Because while the NHS gets constant budget increases, measures to improve the health of the population, and consequently REDUCE the cost to the NHS, get a pittance.

Take cycling for example. More of us should be doing it. Cycling gets a pittance from the transport budget compared to more roads and subsidising trains, so no networks are built. And when plans are put forward, a load of people who don’t want to park a further 100 yards away get angry about it, and start posting about how the bike lane is part of a massive woke conspiracy to give us all illegal climate vaccines or something.

    11. Throw all the cash you like.

Without the staff good luck hitting those targets

Most trusts are in deficit and have recruitment freezes happening.

Their answer is to increase the workload even more on current staff which as history shows, results in burnout and staff taking long term sick.

My team were just asked if we would pick up assessment services to help with the backlog on top of our own role which is already full on…. No money to put out bank to do it or to allocate staff to work duty to cover it, just push it onto the current staff without allocating extra hours or pay to do so.

It’s been datix’ed to death but apparently they don’t recognise you can either have quality or quantity with the current resources available – not both.

Then there’s the whole outsourcing issue and voluntary resignation scheme happening whilst the Government tells us that 3.6% is a brilliant offer…..

I’d love to know why neurodiversity (ADHD/ASD) is excluded from these targets 🤔

I mean the fact until recently they didn’t even KNOW how many people were waiting for assessments says something
