Call it what you want but it looks an eyesore and they should be moved on by the council.

The council is to blame for not building enough housing.
When looking at data around the world on how countries are handling the global housing crisis, building more consistently has the best effect.
The council has the responsibility to house them if they kick them out of their vans and would cost far far more than setting up ‘meanwhile’ sites.

I can’t imagine why wouldn’t you want such a charming, well balanced, person camping out next to you. It’s truly baffling.

The way the little bloke throws his toys out the pram is genuinely hilarious. Just realises he has nothing to actually say and then freaks out and starts tackling the camera kit.

That is the sort of behaviour you expect from these ‘van dwellers’. They do not care about the environment, the rules or other users of the area. I hope that they all get locked up, their vehicles seized and scrapped.
Uncouth, unruly and unwanted.

I’m struggling to understand why a long line of caravans is “an eyesore” but a long line of parked cars and vans isn’t.

Does anywhere else in the country tolerate this level of kerbside camping? Bristol likes to have an edgy, bohemian reputation which welcomes those with artistic and alternative lifestyles. Unfortunately that translates into unauthorised, probably technical illegality, camping from which no revenue is sought or extracted. Is that fair on those who do pay their council tax, millionaires or not?

For those who don‘t know, the van dwellers are parked in a posh area of Bristol. There are van dwellers in other areas of Bristol, but it‘s only getting a news presence because rich folk want to offload those peasants to other parts of the city.
In essence it‘s mostly just rich people in multi million pound houses that are angry the UK is in a state that people need to live in vans.
It‘s not great for both sides, but I want to emphasise that this would likely not be in the news if it wasn‘t in a wealthy area.

The thing that always gets me about the (cara)van dwellers is that they are paying a big fat nothing in terms of council tax.
I’m not from Bristol but I know the area well enough to know that even though Bristol is very expensive prices get a lot more affordable if you’re prepared to live in Yate or Portishead or Weston and commute into work.
There’s also a reason they’re in Clifton, the locals won’t take matters into their own hands, if they rocked up in Lawrence Weston or Knowle West it would be another matter…

Yes having the highest crime to population camping next to you must be such a wonderful thing.

“There are proposals to provide kerbside “service sites”, where people living in vans could dispose of waste and get access to water, as well as plans to open more “meanwhile sites”, where people can live in their vans and be provided with basic services.”
So will the van dwellers be paying some form of tax or rent for these services or is it on the Bristol tax payers?

We could just have built five million homes and capped them at £150,000 each and only sold them to people who didn’t already own a home, but you know….nobody did that and now the homeless are the ones that get the blame.
Same way the govt blamed the disabled for austerity.
