That’s where I want our politicians, on the front line of a protest that has nothing to do with us. Do these elected representatives ever graduate beyond student politics ? Nothing these protestors do can affect the outcome in Gaza, this lad is virtue signalling on your time & money.

This could get interesting. Murphy is an elected state representative. If he doesn’t cooperate with authorities it’s official diplomatic issue territory

He’s going to be a martyr for the cause just like he always wanted.

Some of the reply’s are depressing.
Murphy night not be everybody’s cup of tea but at least he is trying to do something.
We are in the situation today because politicians looked away .

What a gobshite. Sitting TD now going to cost us money getting him out of there.

    6. I admire the conviction but I honestly don’t know what they expected.

Sinai was the center of a 12 year insurgency against AQ/ISIS; only in 2023 was the insurgency declared “dormant”. It’s not in Egypt’s interest to let foreign activists march across the desert known for being a hotbed of insurgency.

This really is a very strange comments section.

Most Irish people are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and want an immediate ceasefire. Here’s a politician trying to do something in that direction. And he’s getting slammed in the comments.

Is this people’s dislike of Murphy/PBP overriding their natural support of the Palestinian cause?

Afaik, Egypt has further fortified their border with Gaza in the last two years. I don’t know if it is about bringing awareness but there is no chance the Egyptians are going to let them reach the border.

Perhaps he should try talking shite to the Egyptian authorities that’s sure to go down well with them.

What are these people doing in Egypt? Irish TDs job is to govern Ireland or present opposition, not rock up to foreign protests.

The opportunity cost of him doing this is not focusing on the crises we face at home or indeed his constituents.

His an elected official, this is a disgrace the way he is carrying on, not a good look for Ireland, he really should know better
