
Il canale di Xerxes in Grecia fu costruito intorno al 480 a.C. dal re persiano Xerxi I per consentire alla sua flotta di bypassare in sicurezza le pericolose acque intorno al Monte Athos durante la sua invasione della Grecia, sebbene gran parte di esso sia erosa o coperta da terreni agricoli nel corso dei secoli.
