“Two fugitives wanted for murder and child rape in Brazil have successfully used Britain’s human rights laws to avoid extradition.
Marlon Martins Dos Santos and Nicolas Gomes De Brito have both successfully fought extradition to Brazil after claiming it would breach their rights under Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which protects against torture and inhuman treatment.
Dos Santos was sentenced to 14 years in jail in Brazil for repeatedly raping a five year-old girl but by then he had already fled to the UK. A British judge refused Brazil’s extradition request on the basis that it would violate his Article 3 rights. In April he was convicted of possessing and distributing more than 1,000 images of child abuse, including the most serious category.”

I wonder if Parliament realise it is sovereign and is only bound by the ECHR as much as they allow it.
I don’t know who is running this EC HR department but I think we should get rid of them.
Very glad these stories are reaching non right wing press. My friend worked at the home office and quit for this exact reason – disgusted by the actions of judges and civil servants

When will we get a government with a set of balls that will kick the European human rights into touch it cost so many litany so much money it’s unbelievable
I would prefer that we don’t come out of / repeal anything to do with ECHR. These are just steps, much like the US, designed to lurch to the right. Fascism isn’t a good look.
A balanced approach would be for them to serve their sentences over here (and Brazil pay for it)
The British media are going to use these extreme instances of minorities committing crimes to convince a racist populace they should leave the ECHR and reduce their own legal protections.
The elites don’t care about your safety, or that of your kids. Or at least not as much as they care about Britain’s international ‘obligations’ and how we’re perceived abroad. The bureaucracy only cares about blindly following the bureaucratic rules.
We apply our own morals and insanely high standards to other countries to apply their own laws against their own citizens.
Brazil has a functioning government and justice system, let them do what they want.
So he entered the UK as an immigrant and I’m guessing didn’t admit he was already charged in Brazil, so he’s lied on this immigration form and therefore should be kicked out of the country anyway? I mean, that’s what would happen in a real country
