In questo giorno, 17 giugno 1953: una rivolta di lavoratori nella Germania orientale fu violentemente soppressa dai carri armati sovietici. È diventato un simbolo duraturo di resistenza ai regimi comunisti nell’Europa orientale.

Another case of Russians bringing prosperity and happiness
To Russians.
I get it. It sucks.
U had this big powerful Soviet Nation. And now your economy is barely compares to Italy.
But the thing is u still have it. All the power and resources are still in Russia. But they belong to Putin and his inner circle.
Literally your mother Russia could be as strong as China, or progressive as Norway. You only need to get rid off Putin. Start trading with a West. Stop all stupid wars. And that’s it. Simple as that.
If not, your country will burn like Germany did.
They just got under new management 😄
Ironic that a country that claimed to be “for workers” did that on a regular basis
Living in a former communist country, I was familiar with the Hungarian uprising in 1956 and Czechoslovak in 1968, but didn’t hear before about the East German in 1953.
It was also a key factor brhind Beria’s downfall (besides him being a serial rapist who everyone despised of course)
In spite of being a little known fact, this uprising influenced greatly the Cold War. In particoular, some believe it was the key reason behind the creation of East Germany
To clarify a bit, neither East Germany, Czechoslovakia (back then), Hungary or Poland is “Eastern Europe”, neither geographically nor culturally.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that there was another important Warsaw Pact intervention in 1968 in Czechoslovakia leading to up to 100 deaths on the protesters side.
There were also two large strikes and uprisings in Poland in 1956 in Poznan and in 1970 across the coastal parts of Poland, both resulting in over 100 lost lives on protesters side. They, however, have not triggered a Warsaw Pact response like the ČSSR one.
If looking at official death tolls and timespan, we could argue that the strikes in Poland and ČSSR were more significant than the East Germany one. Of course, this is purely a historical assumption, and not to one-up the Germans or downplay the victims.
Just no. Stop with whitewashing of Nazis and Germans.
Contrary to occupation of Eastern nations. Germany and Germans did deserve this.
If there were justice, they would have been left to safekeeping by Eastern Nations that they tried to exterminate.
But no, Germans lived better after WW2 than before it. Thanks to the US and Western allies.
The capitalists did exactly the same in 1918 in Germany.

But I guess there is the good and the bad protester.
Fun Fact: This day was West Germany’s national holiday until reunification
Eh? Quietly trying to downplay the genocide Germany tried to commit just a couple of years prior?
