Fun fact, you already paid that for the cans you just get your own money back. If you throw away the cans you throw your own money away.
We don’t have this system in our EU country, there is a special garbage truck that comes once a week and collects plastic bags we fill with plastic water bottles, carton, and cans. We just put those out in front of our buildings and they take them once a week. I thought our system was great, but now I’m jealous of yours.
So what you get back is probably calculated into the selling price?
We do the same with glass bottles, you pay a bit more but get it back if you bring back the bottle.

Romanian here,we just got this implemented this nationwide last year.
We get 0.5 RON per can or 0.125€
When you buy any drink,you already get taxed with the amount.
Implementation had been…shaky to say the least,also many people including myself are searching trash bins to get them for cash.
In a normal month,i get around 120€ from these cans.
