“We want to raise our NATO standard, but we don’t want to actually spend any money”
There is no end of twists and turns the Dutch will go through to not have to open their wallet

At every turn, political. economic, social, there will be several trolling imbeciles, just talking shit and pretending they are valid, informed and knowledgeable. It’s not just in politics but pretty much everywhere, including business, culture and academics.

He has a point. Funding allied armies should count. Especially that it’s often more effective.

When the goal is set as high as 3,5+1,5% then of course we will see more creative accounting.
This is only the beginning.

Lol cant help Ukraine AND build your own military but this is exactly what everyone else expects from the US

Denmark already does it. That’s how they reached the 2% level.
With the upcoming NATO Summit, members will probably agree to factor Ukraine aid into the 1.5% “defense-related” spending that could be part of a new 5% of GDP target (3.5% being actual military spending).

Buy new gear to replace your aging inventory. They have some Boxer vehicles, engineering layout, and Apache helicopters that can be sent. Also some nice reaper drones, might get really interesting for them to give some submarines for the Ukranians to play around with in the North-Sea and Baltic sea.

The Dutch military doesn’t even know what to buy with all that money. More planes? Submarines?
I say: Nuclear weapons. Because it’s the ultimate defense. We only need like 40 of them, with 2 nuclear submarines as well as planes that can fire them. *If anyone tries to stop us we will blow up ASML and disrupt global chip supply and advancement for decades, bitches!* Once we have the nukes we are good. Iran is getting rekt right now but nobody is fucking with North Korea. It would make us the third most powerful country in Europe.
The Army’s problem is lack of **manpower**, doesn’t matter if you spend 5% if your army is tiny. The military should be respected far more than it is, that requires a societal shift, and raise salaries by 25% please, so more people see it as a viable job. And increase the compensation for being a reservist, while slightly lowering the restrictions. You’re short on manpower but reject me as a reservist because I vape Weed 1-2 times per month on weekends? Dumbasses. Meanwhile soldiers get shit faced drunk every weekend.
If manpower stays this low, expect a lottery based mandatory 6-12 month military service

Lol, [called it](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/1lahd4v/comment/mxlio5h/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)!
It is NATO defense! If Ukraine falls, Europe should brush up on their Russian speaking skills.
Amateurs. Wait ´till we Belgians get creative…
lol at least be truthful and just say no to the NATO percentage instead of trying to play both sides
Every Russian Rocket that Ukraine takes down, is a rocket not landing on Nato soil. So makes total sense.
This makes complete sense. I hope Canada uses the same accounting.
How would aid to Ukraine count towards NATO spending when Ukraine isn’t in NATO? lol
