If only there was some incentive available that made company cars more likely to be EVs.
Something that say… might reduce the BIK on them to super low levels.
And then after a few years those cars could make their way to the open market at discounted rates.
If only a scheme like that wasn’t canned.

>Additional grants of up to €10,000 for fully electric vehicles costing less than €35,000 for lower income households will be key, it says.
Do I have a different definition to lower income households than the CAC do?
What lower income household can afford to spend 25k euro on a car?

Didnt Germany remove grants and found manufacturers automatically drop prices straight away?

All these green energy schemes do is to put money back into the pockets of people who can afford investments into the likes of solar energy, EVs, heat pumps, deep retro fit energy upgrades etc., thus creating a further wealth gap between the classes and will only serve – long term – to create “energy poverty” because those who cannot afford to invest are being penalized with much higher energy costs while you have a whole section of middle classes on reduced energy bills and selling electricity back to the grid.

You would want to be very careful dropping 40, 50 or 60k into an EV that might be worthless in about five years.
Once Tesla robotaxis are launched here, it’s going to be like the Apple iPhone and nokia, nobody’s going to want to drive anymore. Also, nobody wants to store a car, pay insurance, servis the car, motor tax, NCT, the change will be extremely rapid.

Raise the grants and dealership will immediately raise their prices and change how they do trade ins.

It’s so fun that they go on about zero emissions from EV, of course that’s just crazy, while the cars don’t make emissions themselves, all their “emissions” happen prior to them being made, where, they mine, process the ore and ship it to plants then send to wherever the car is built and plenty of emissions recycling the used EVs in a few years. We just shift the pollution somewhere else!

It’s not the cars they need grants for. It’s the energy that is required to run them. Make electricity cheap and they will come…

Drop the VRT on them

This recommendation must have been written by lunatics.
There is a colossal shortage at the moment of battery materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite. These materials would be far better used in public transport initiatives than leaving them to be used for cars.
Also, what in God’s name are they on about in terms of low-income households?! No low-income household is going to be able to afford to avail of this scheme.

This is so incredibly wasteful of the tax payers money. We should be building long lasting transport infrastructure, like light rail and metro etc, instead of subsidising new cars for the middle class. What do we do in 5-10 years when the batteries are shot, just stump a few more billion for the next round of cars? Absolute joke.

Grants are a stupid incentive. Manufacturers just add the grant to the price. Over the last 3-4 years, EV prices have crept up to basically cancel out any grant.

Or they can just make them cheaper?
Grants are just a roundabout way of making something cheaper.
