Excellent news, as Russian neighbours Finland should never have joined the treaty to begin with. People were too optimistic about Russias future back then, but happy to see we are facing reality again.

I enjoyed Tarja “Moomin Mama” Halonen, but signing the Ottawa Treaty was probably the worst thing she did and I was pissed about it.
I’m happy that the parliament voted to withdraw.

Norway should probably do the same to not have a weak spot in the Finnish defences.

Oh, it is the mines treaty.
Yeah, it is great to not use (anti personnel or otherwise) mines, until you find yourself in an actual war, then those things are extremely useful, as proven again and again in Ukraine.

One of the biggest blunders of our national security is finally being fixed. In the last few years we have seen that mines are still a very effective weapon system on the modern battlefield.
And for those of you who are concerned about kids and berry pickers being killed after the war: systematically documented minefields are one of the smallest UXO hazards. We will have a good idea of both the amount and location of mines in a given minefield. Russian submunition mines dropped from aircrafts and artillery, dud arty and mortar rounds and submunitions/bomblets will be much more dangerous as there is no data on where they are.
Another point is that mines are effective in slowing the Russian advance, reducing the area on which battles have been fought. This is important as any battlefield will be extremely dangerous for civilians from all the leftover munitions.

Well, yeah, of course. They need to mine the fuck out of the Finno-Russian border.

Very good, the only countries who didn’t sign are the big countries. It should be the other way around.

Oh dear, can we please stop calling this „good“ or a „success“? While this might be a necessary or rational step, it is still a huge defeat for humanity. Sad times. 🙁
