In the late 1800’s, a bunch of Luxembourgers moved to the US (Wisconsin) and formed this town, and named it “Luxembourg, Wisconsin”. At the same time, a group from Belgium did the same thing, and named their town “Belgium, Wisconsin”. They both sent their paperwork in to the state at the same time, and the office mixed them up and got the names switched. When both towns asked Wisconsin to correct the error, the state told them they already wrote it down in pen, so there was nothing to be done. So the Luxembourgers live in the town of Belgium, and the Belgians live in the town of Luxembourg down the road.
