      As he was a Church of Ireland member, his funeral was in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, so Roman Catholics were not allowed to attend a non RC service. Noel Browne was the only cabinet member who went inside whilst the rest stayed outside. Devalera did not attend either.

      He was one of the last speakers of the Roscommon dialect of Irish. One of the only recordings of the dialect that exists is of him taking his oath of inauguration.
