Of course she did, she seems to be ideologically driven and chooses not to understand how everything is interconnected.

She should have taken note when she was given a quiet talking too about the Royals that she should take a step back and choose to learn a little about the levers of power.

Or not, she seems to be keen to carry on as is.

People seem to think Labour can deliver better public services, without cuts to current spending, and with no increase to taxes.

    3. CheesyBakedLobster on

At least there’s someone in the cabinet who realises what is actually needed then. Both spending cuts and tax rises are needed to bring the long term national budget back into balance.

Happy to pay more taxes to fund social policies. We already pay enough taxes towards privatised losses. Stop that and lets go back towards progressive taxation.

We don’t need tax rises. We need to means test the state pension, especially preventing the 1 in 4 wealth millionaire retirees from receiving a penny in state pension. They don’t need benefits. They need to downsize

Defund boat people. Problem very nearly solved. Your welcome.

It’s amazing how fucking pathetic this country is. A member of an ostensibly left wing party floats the idea of raising taxes to fund are criminally underfunded public services and somehow this is supposed to be a controversy?

I have stayed away from commenting on politics. It drove me down dark paths. However, ow as somewhat of an insider it seems like everything is Labour’s fault and not 14 years of Tory austerity.

    9. A lot of the Labour left want Rayner to replace Starmer rn (go look at the Labour sub). If that happens we’ll get even more tax rises, more welfare spending and further trade union appeasement. Farage might as well start measuring the curtains for Number 10.

These tax rises would consign us to the stagflation and debt doom loop even more than we already are and kill off any investment or job growth. Plus literally nobody takes Rayner seriously as a potential leader. She’s there to keep the unions on side, the Labour leadership doesn’t even want her.

They need to raise taxes on those who can afford it the most.

There are ways to increase taxes without hitting the working class.

I’m sure increasing council tax on houses over a few million pounds, second homes and Airbnb type properties would be a start. Increase top rate tax for people earning a million pounds plus by a couple of percent also, and raise it more on a sliding scale the more you earn

We can’t have a fair society with people living in poverty whist others hoard millions and billions

Ange isn’t daft. She knows the sums don’t add up, and wants to be the first on record saying that inside the tent.

    12. Classic_Peasant on

Tax is already too high on working people.

Areas and amount money is being spent on isnt sustainable, you’ll run out or tax people till they have no more.

      For those arguing.

Add in the COL, our low wages and stagnation plus housing costs and everything else that gets thrown in.

The state, healthcare system and my landlord fighting over who is entitled more to my paycheck… God forbid i get to keep any of my income 😒

    14. AdAggressive9224 on

😮 . I am shocked! I’d imagine tax rises on people that already work incredibly hard and make their contributions! But no tax rises on those who don’t, and get a free ride off the back of asset appreciation

Just give labour 3 more years, you will see the results

This article and the memo is a month old. Why is this being posted now lol

“Leaked” by which they mean released by Rayner’s team to try and distance her from the benefits stuff she’s been pushing.

    18. baneandgain on

The tax burden is at a record high and it’s not the way forward

It’s time for boomer pensioners to stop getting handouts while working people are struggling

It’s also high time they stop forcing councils to fund SEND programmes which is why so many of them are declaring bankruptcy

    19. Travel-Barry on

If people can’t see that a shrinking workforce/booming retiring population _is going to seriously increase_ the working tax burden over the coming years then there’s really nothing left to be said.

We either increase taxes; continue with unfettered immigration; or cruelly impose pressures to get women to have more children. Guess which one will have _the least_ amount of resistance.

You mean to tell me that different people within one political party have different views? No way!?

What’s next, left leaning politicians having left leaning policies!?!?
