Heaven forbid anything is done to address the HUGE amount of money the UK gives away to people which in some cases shouldn’t have it. Let’s create a country of people who are dependent mentally and financially on the nanny state. What could possibly go wrong.

The solution to the unaffordability of PIP they’ve landed on is essentially the “solution” to every financial crisis of our lifetimes so far: pull the ladder up, and tell the next generation to cope.
Yes, I know there’s a problem of affordability. How come every time there’s a problem of affordability, the next generation subsidise the previous to have something they never will.

It’s times like these where I wonder: “why the fuck is no one talking about OT?”
It’s the perfect profession to help with enabling people with disabilities and mental health issues to get to work. We work with people in a person-centred way, based on their strengths, needs and intrests. We have various assessment tools and outcome measures to use.
OTs in district councils need to have a go at some of these mental health referals for young people. We are very useful.

Instead of constantly taking from those without. What if the government actually did something useful.
If essential industries weren’t private, like oil, gas, water, rail etc. That’d instantly bring in many billions in extra income for the government. Such things should never be under private control in the first place. Those record profits that go to shareholders could instead be reinvested into the economy, create a sovereign wealth fund and actually support the people.
Land tax with the exception of farm land.
Hell, I’d even support a ban on 100% home ownership. (Just for new builds temporarily) Make it so you can only buy up to say 75% of a home. The remaining 25% stays under council control. You get significantly more affordable housing, and pay a extremely low rent on the remaining percentage that goes directly to the council to support infrastructure and more construction etc. In return the council is responsible for their share of upkeep if you have problems.
Same applies to private builds too, the company has to retain 25% and cover their share. That’ll encourage better quality builds to avoid maintenance costs, but they also profit long term. If they want to sell the houses fully, they sell their 25% to the council. Plus more apartment buildings rather than just single homes to actually house more people.
