How safe is Northern Serbia nowadays for tourists? (How frequent/disruptive are the protests?) Considering travel in October.

Well they do occasionally jump up and down.
The thing is : last time at major protests there was a Schroedinger’s sound gun that was but wasn’t there, but as a tourist just stay away from the particular place were the protests are held.

If I am not mistaken this square holds 85k people when full (just the square, without the surrounding streets). There is also a [simulation](https://youtu.be/0lwZGRzv_EE?si=8zwbAvNiYpaMWV-0) one guy did on youtube. So there must be like 120k people on this photo (just a guess).

What’s the point of even mentioning the government numbers? These are laughable, there’s at least a 100k people there and many more outside of that shot.

The government has committed a terrorist act of enticing panic through claims that an anonymous phone call warned about bombs being set up on every single train station in the country.
Through this act they’ve justified the complete shutdown of the public transportation. This was their attempt to sabotage the protest by preventing as many people as possible from going to Belgrade.
In addition, they’ve mobilized the police and ordered them to stop pro-protestor commuters by pulling them over, arresting them and confiscating their registration plates.
Government has ordered arrests of many pro-protest people charging them with the attempt of coup d’état and terrorism. These people were held for several days and then released without any charges. One notable person would be the man who was the leader of the military syndicate, this guy was known for criticizing the autocratic regime (SNS, a member of European People’s Party from EU). He was arrested and held in essentially captivity for 6 months during which time he was pressured to change sides, but he didn’t. He was eventually released with no charges but the syndicate had received an overhaul and was pro-regime from then on.
The regime has recently intensified their attacks on the students and all anti-regime people by labeling them Nazis, Ustashas, western agents and so on. They’ve used these specific labels because those labels cater to their unironic voting body, which is ironic because they accuse us of being Russian agents when they speak with EU reps, and those reps have apparently accepted that idea.
This regime has had international support (EU included) since their first won elections in 2012 when they were congratulated by the EU leaders, hours before the election was done even though it was a razor thin election and thus one which would be impossible to call that early. Every since the regime hasn’t made a single step towards joining the EU, they have however received praise for “reforms” as well as for making Serbia the “leading” country towards euro-integrations.
A prominent figure, Ursula Von Der Leyen, during her last visit to Serbia in late 2024, during her live press conference with Vucic said as follows:
“Serbia is one of the most advanced countries in the EU accession process, you have shown that you can meet the necessary criteria. You have dedicated yourself to implementing reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law and democracy, you have shown that the works follow your words”, said the EC leader and added how the EU “in that spirit” works to open clusters three in accession negotiations with Serbia.
