Why would anyone oppose this!? Common sense.
“Tolerance will reach such a level that intelligent people will be banned from thinking so as not to offend the imbeciles”
Dostoevsky
I imagine that the government is fearful of the public support anti-immigrant groups seem to be receiving. They are probably more fearful of the fact that there is very little pushback or combination to the messages these groups are putting out.
This “plan” is a cynical attempt by the government to appear that they are on their side, and to try and slow down the amount of people disillusioned by current policies that are flocking to them. They know what they are talking about doing cannot be done, the courts would be flooded with legal challenges for the next decade.
If the government were serious about sorting out housing and other overstretched public services number of things will have to be done. In nearly all areas bureaucracy and administration would massively need to be downsized and public resources put into on-the-ground workers. There are just too many people going around offices moving stacks of paper to look busy.
There needs to be widescale deportations of anyone who has failed asylum claims currently or who is still here despite failing in the past.
We need to get so much tougher on border control to stop people coming in in the first place. Unless we can stop the bleeding putting a sticking plaster over the wound will do very little.
Read the article and non the wiser as to what it is really about. If we have skilled migrant builders , tradies and labourers coming in it makes absolute sense to incentvise it.
Not sure what the article is about thought. More shite.
“the legislation will propose that households seeking housing support would have to be legally and habitually resident in the State”
sounds like common sense, whats the issue
That’s the second article they brought out today the first including the headline
“Restricting social housing for migrants an attempt to solve a problem ‘that does not exist’”.
Like okay, the public, you and I can converse on this and likely come to some sort of agreement or at the very least some sort of mutual understanding . But you have these fucking media outlets, these so called Irish journalists and government activists that try and succeed in completely putting down and then ignoring very very real problems.
What do they think the endgame will be here? Seriously, what do they think is going to happen when the people break and what very little goodwill left is gone completely? Another fucking article.
>Campaigners and the Opposition dismissed the mooted changes, indicating there will be strong resistance to them politically and from civil society.
The opposition? Christ on a bike.
Why are we giving permanent residency and citizenship to non-EU citizens who are likely to even end up needing social housing anyway? If you can’t support yourself, it’s kinder to be encouraged to return home…
