Right, so the difference between meat and dairy between the U.S and Ireland is the Trump? What a stupid headline.

Okay, I’m going to be a bit harsh and say just get on with it. Worst case it is an adventure and they are there for a short period of time, not like they have emigrated lock, stock and barrel.

Although the last few months in the US would really dissuade me from going.

Yes indeed, lots of things are different in different countries.

Some might even say things are a bit … foreign

Food tastes different in other countries.

      Whooda thunk it?

    5. American food was considered dangerous for human consumption under EU regulations long before Trump took office.

I can buy Kerry Gold in Publix here in Atlanta and it’s pretty good. Can also buy grass-fed beef that makes a decent burger. Irish and British import foods are fairly easy to find here – I have sausage rolls, b&w pudding, crisps, biscuits and chocolate arriving on my doorstep on Wednesday. Just in time for my anti-4th of July dining. 🙂

    7. That has been the case under every single administration? Trump has nothing to do with meat and dairy being lower standard and it’s not like you can’t buy Kerrygold at practically every single supermarket in the U.S.

This is a dumb headline. Food in the US is not great, but it’s not because of Trumps America, it’s always sucked. Kerrygold is available pretty much everywhere though. And quality food is there, you just have to look a little harder. A J1 student complaining about this in June is hilarious though, they probably only left mammys house 3 weeks ago.

Trump changed the meat and butter? Fkn hell 😂😂😂

Oh woe is me, it’s like living in a foreign country!!!

That’s a dopey headline. I’ve been over there a few times and yeah, if you eat solely in franchises and fast food places, it’s utter garbage(same as everywhere). But restaurants and the likes are bloody great.

Still though, I’m onboard with the Trump hate train. He’s a bawbag.

There’s many things you can blame trump for.

But the food isn’t one of them. American food is swill and has been for decade’s

    13. Not sure I’d want my name appearing in the article if I were them. I’d really be only slightly surprised if they got deported over it.

This might sound weird, but after spending the last few weeks touring Europe, I found the dairy tastes mostly shit in Germany, Austria and Italy. People don’t realise how good we have it in Ireland.

    15. Haha jesus what a wildly different approach to a J1 than my own. After rent, I spent the rest of it on whatever cheap booze I could source, supplemented by a $5 Little Caesar’s pizza to cover off my well rounded diet.

These J1 students should fuck off to Ballymaloe if they are looking for food provenance.

Another example of people having wildly generalized opinions based on very limited experience – just vibes and anecdotal certainty.

America has great food quality, it’s just really overpriced. You can literally find anything in the US.

    18. tpatmaho on

Can’t read the article so don’t know where she is. But if you’re in Boston, New York, DC, Baltimore, Charleston, Philly, New Orleans (!) Houston, Austin, Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, Los Angeles (!) San Francisco (!) Berkeley, Seattle, Portland or Honolulu, you can probably find an acceptable meal somewhere. If you’re going to school in the American backwaters, then, this was a poor choice upfront. America, at its best, has great food and astonishing variety. And lotsa swill. Stay away from the swill.
