Small boat crossings alone are in the region of what net immigration was in the 90s. Its only small in the context of everything else being so high

2019: Small boat crossings 1,843
2020: Brexit
2021: Small boat crossings 28,526
I wonder what a potential solution could be.

The weather was shit first half of last year. Has been much better this year. Easier to cross when the weather is good.

879 arrived in a single day yesterday.
These numbers are crazy, just the amount of coaches alone to go pick them all up seems a big task in itself, let alone finding somewhere to house them, more staff to feed them everyday, give them health care etc etc. And then repeat in a few days time.

We need to make it easier to claim asylum while in these people’s home countries. They are not going to waste time and money trying to cross illegally if they can go through the process at home. It would also give us a proper record of people who tried and failed to claim asylum before trying to enter illegally, and where they are from. It is not the perfect solution but it would help a lot.
