Give him a break, he’s tried nothing, and he’s all out of ideas

My daughter waited a decade. My second daughter waited 4 years for initial assessment to qualify her for waiting list for full assessment.

I don’t know if anyone’s counting, if it’s getting worse it would mean my younger daughter will wait at least 14 years in total for an assessment. 14 years. For a child.

Services and supports for children with disabilities fell off a cliff nearly 5 years ago.

The Hse took a functional system ( enable Ireland for example) and completely fucked it up under the guise of CDNT.

We went from a full team of speech and language/ot/physio etc to absolutely nothing. Office has one manager, four secretaries and a single OT half a day and week who is overwhelmed. We’ve gone from weekly appointments locally to having to travel to Crumlin/Tallaght every two months for a single appointment. This has had a detrimental effect on the child involved whose condition is deteriorating at an alarming rate.

My daughter emigrated a little while ago but I’m not sad or upset, I’m relieved that she’ll never have to waste another minute of her life in this shithole of a country.

The majority of the electorate don’t care, that’s why this is tolerated.

Worst part is assessment is only one aspect of the care the child needs. It’s the additional support and therapies that are lacking in this country that is absolutely terrifying. It needs to be improved. The fact a child can go years without any real individualised support is a disgrace.
