I thought we hated when people protested? I was told how this was acceptable and it wasn’t authoritarianism because it effected pro-Palestinian organisations. Are Labour trying to even copy the authoritarianism of Reform to get those far right votes.
Oh, god, I’ve criticised the government, I guess this might be my last Reddit post before I’m sent to prison for 50 years.
I absolutely support the right to protest but are we sure this ten fold increase in nuisance arrests isn’t because there’s been a ten fold increase in fucking nuisances?
Like, there’s people trying to class breaking into military establishments and sabotaging millions of pounds of military equipment as “protesting” so, I’d like to see a breakdown of what these people were actually up to when they were arrested for protesting.
Anyone who was arrested whilst legitimately protesting has a good case but, we’re light on details here ..
I have also noticed how Just Stop Oil suddenly stopped when the USAID funding payments got cancelled. Paid actors for performative activism.
Video on twitter today of a cyclist being ticketed for cycling with no hands, which a lot of us have done, and is probably worthy of a warning because you’re not in complete control. The officer invoked The Human Rights Act Article 2 ‘Right to Life’ as the reason for the ticket.
Given how intentionally disruptive so many “protests” have been from climate groups and Pro-Palestinan groups this is hard to parse as proof of anything.
Isn’t it nice how they’re massively broadening the definition of ‘terrorist’ and cracking down on our rights to protest right as [British police are about to deploy Palantir’s Nectar AI surveillance tool nation wide](https://inews.co.uk/news/police-use-controversial-ai-tool-sex-lives-beliefs-3747154)
This is an AI tool that police will use to ‘access vast amounts of police data, including sensitive personal information’ to build one database containing information on ‘individual’s race, sex life, health and political beliefs (including trade union membership)’.
Frighteningly, it’s to be used to determine ‘persons suspected of having committed or being **about to commit a criminal offence**’.
Amnesty International have said that ‘The establishment and provision of data-driven law enforcement raises severe human rights concerns. The development of a ‘real-time data-sharing network’ across UK law enforcement agencies, that creates a 360 profile of individuals using sensitive personal data, violates people’s right to privacy and establishes a system of indiscriminate mass surveillance.’
All of this coming from Palantir, a company owned by known psychopath and wannabe techno fascist overlord Peter Thiel. Palantir have 24 contracts with UK public institutions, the NHS, the Police Force, the Ministry of Defence, the Cabinet Office, and the DLUHC.
