Of course not, why would he. The whole thing is just to bolster his profile and keep him in the papers.

People, we’re almost done. He’s just retired. Let’s all keep our heads down and we’ll hopefully be done with him soon enough. Nobody start any shite talk about electing him or giving him another job, and we’ll be fine.

Fair play to Joe. This proves that he’s serious about retiring and earning money for old rope.

The real story here is that the Irish Political system has run out of ideas. Both Labour and FF were looking to put him forward and luckily Joe has enough self awareness to back out of their lack of serious candidates. But the rest of the political parties are no better. An exhausted system that is coasting on the past success of our economic strategy and doing nothing to propose a sustainable future other than divvy out the wealth created by an increasingly small group of people and companies in Ireland.
It’s worrying that the only new voices to emerge in the last decade are the very mediocre Social Democrats who stand for nothing and bring nothing to the table. Where is the new Lemass or TK Whitaker? Voted out by an electorate looking for short term freebies.
