“Perché penalizziamo le persone per essere malati?”: Gli ospedali hanno preso quasi 19 milioni di euro nelle tasse di parcheggio l’anno scorso

Because they are a business and if were free you would have people taking advantage of it for non related purposes.

      I find this absolutely madness.

The country bringing in 110 billion in tax each year and people dealing with cancer and the likes have to pay for a car park.

      It’s. Bonkers.

Pure greed. Pure and shameful greed.

I’d imagine the easiest answer would be that if there was no parking fees the car parks would be clogged up with people leaving their cars there to catch the bus. I do think there should be a situation that if you are going for a regular check up, like for instance cancer treatment, then the ticket should be scanned by the hospital when yer leaving

It’s really bad tbh — and it’s often obnoxiously and very aggressively enforced. I was clamped multiple times while visiting my now late mother at a hospital when she had a stroke due to expired tickets when delayed at appointments.

Parking in general at Irish hospitals is always inadequate, unpredictable and extremely expensive.

You arrive and it’ll be very pricey and often the systems involve needing to find coins and cash too.

Because we all know that due to where hospitals are located generally, if the parking was free you would have a massive % of the spaces taken up by people who work or shop nearby.

      Seriously lads.

It’s not penalising the sick at all. It’s an effort to ensure there are spaces available for those that need them, by making it unattractive to people not using the hospital.

How easy do you think it would be to get a spot if it was free?

There is an easy balance between making people pay and having the parking be used by those who don’t need it – validation. People have to provide a ticket to leave the hospital, and that ticket can either be paid or validated by the hospital.

Would be nice if you could have your parking validated inside the hospital for free to prevent commuters using the parked for free.

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was reasonably priced and well managed. As an example, the Coombe had awful car park management when i was last there. The pay machine would only take cash and there was no ATM or anything nearby. It’s probably improved in the last few years but I bet there’s still queues of cars outside waiting for a space to open so they can turn into the car park. Probably not helped by them giving the same appointment times to everyone.

When Wexford Hospital was being rebuilt after the fire. the carpark was free inorder to allow the trades people in and out i think. But it was great. I usually park in the council building over the road as that is free, so it saved me a walk.

Why should people who drive be subsidised by taking money meant to be spent on healthcare for parking spaces? If you can afford a car you can afford to pay to park it.

    12. broken_neck_broken on

I remember the Coombe would waive the parking fee for the day your baby was born. I also discovered a trick that I’m pretty sure works at most car parks where it’s for example €1 for the first 2 hours and €2 an hour after that. You go out and pay your two hours and it actually resets your ticket so you can go out every 2 hours and make it a bit cheaper. Makes sense if you imagine the ticket has a time of issue imprinted. The machine reads this and compares to current time. If it’s less than the grace period there is no charge, otherwise it applies the rates as advertised and it resets the time of issue so you have that grace period to exit.

    13. Irish government should be ashamed of themselves. You can’t even build a good healthcare and your charging for parking fees.

A solid portion of that are doctors having to pay for their own parking

Why don’t we have better alternatives than having to drive everywhere?
