Nationwide is a well-run building society, so the Chief Executive deserves a payrise.
Ignore the activists – never forget how they ruined the Co-op bank.
Successful organisation rewards success.
This isn’t Thames water.
Looks like Nationwide have invested funds into some glazing accounts judging by the comments here.
Nobody earning the eye-watering amounts that banking bosses earn need a 43% pay-rise. This is obscene.
£7m annual wage, in the current economy, is vile.
Will she be taking a 43% tax hike to go with her wage increase?
Lemmie guess. Nope.
As a member I’m happy the CEO is financially motivated to do a good job. Without the raise she might get poached by a bank for even more.
It’s good there wasn’t a vote because the activists just don’t comprehend the competitive nature of these top jobs. The haters might be happy to hear she’ll pay nearly 50% tax on it.
If we attempt to limit pay packages, we’ll just have top execs move to the US and banks like Chase will take over. Then we have no more UK based companies.
Ridiculous pay levels, but stopping it would be like limiting premier league salaries. They’d just all go to Spain and Italy.
I’m a Nationwide member and I’m not mad about this, it’s effectively a representative democracy (the members elect the board, the board decide day to day policy) and that’s fine. There has never been a vote on exec pay before.
I’m not sure the rise itself is justified but that’s a different question.
Nationwide doesn’t and shouldn’t need to compete with other banks’salaries because they are not a bank. If Debbie is upset her banking mates are getting paid more than her, then she should leave, rather than taking money from her staff and members. Whilst members may have never had a voice over exec pay in the past, it doesn’t mean they can’t be annoyed about it now or demand it in the future. It’s absolutely tone deaf my Debbie and I hope it leads to her exit.
I’m gonna ask my boss for a 43% pay rise and see what she says
Fingers crossed for me guys…….
For a company who’s adverts feature Dominic West as a stereotypical fat cat rival bank boss, this seems a bit off.
