Ciao a tutti,

IANAL nor an electrician or city planner or whatever, but I would be extremely surprised if this is a legal setup.
Looks like someone took it upon themselves to lay a regular extension cord underneath the sidewalk.
Doesn’t look like it’s up to code for such an installation…

Probably best not to make the municipality any wiser and ask them about it right? Right now it’s no harm no foul. I’d they investigate, it might turn ugly for your neighbour.

This is also Amsterdam. An inventive guy. Live and let live, it’s none of your business.

Why would you feel the need to inform municipality about this?
Does it seem he’s tapping into someone else’s power? Does it look unsafe?

If the answer to both questions is ‘no’ just talk to your neighbour. Ask him how he set this up and if it’s safe. As long as it’s safe I really don’t understand why you’d want to ‘snitch’ about this.

Seems like someone that hammered a pipe through the sand and fed their own cable through.

    7. > How should I go about this to ask my municipality whether this is allowed or not? I’m not sure what to ask for.

You don’t have to. Unless this is all private ground (its not because if it was, why would they do it like this?), I can tell you right away that this is extremely illegal.

Nobody is allowed to bury any kind of cable whatsoever on public ground, except for a selected few utility companies. Sucks but even a centimeter of public ground between you and your parking spot = no cable.

Never involve the municipality for useful solutions that aren’t legal. They’ll f u and ur neighbor up.
Either be inventive and create something similar urself or ask ur neighbor how he did it. Ur taking on a risk though as this definitely isnt legal and the more people start doing it, the higher the chance someone will notice and report it
