The Radio and Television Higher Council (RTÜK), an autonomous body whose members are appointed by the parliamentary proportion, had subjected Halk TV to a ten-day suspension of broadcast, beginning tomorrow, as they allegedly violated the law regarding hate speech.

Following a lawsuit, the Ankara 21st Administrative Court has annulled the decision, remarking that the government lacks any substantial evidence. The RTÜK will be given 30 days to prove, and they have 7 days to appeal the decision. In the meantime, ahead of further crackdowns on social democratic opposition, Halk TV will maintain its broadcast for at least a month.

It did matter for Erdogan to silence the opposition media, the initial instrument of propaganda, as CHP threatens the regime with ‘actual street resistance’, instead of the democratic protests they held to this day. Özgür Özel had also stated that the democratic Turkey will issue an Interpol red notice for the AKP elites.

Rumors claim that the regime seeks to launch the process to suspend the parliamentary immunity of top figures and MPs, including the main opposition leader, who ranks fourth in state protocol, above the Chief of the General Staff and all ministers. Silencing the dissident media carried utmost importance to hinder any response from the Kemalists.

    2. The thing is, they will possibly banish or remove the judge who gives this decision. There are indeed thousands of honest judges, but some cases are only given to very small amount of judges most of whom are claimed to have a very questionable law education background (like diplomas from non-existing universities).

RTUK stands for “Radio and Television Upper Council” in Turkey.

But since it is openly controlled by Erdogan, we call it “Recep Tayyip Upper Council” instead.

You can’t trust any council or court in Turkey. In the end, it is always Tayyip (Erdogan) pulling the strings.

These news ftom RTUK is a good change of heart. But the dictator needs to go.
