The institutions are crumbling
Incredible, as if the health service couldn’t get any worse and just like that it has.
Socialism or barbarism. Those are the only options
More hikes. It’s never ending.
Jokes on them, I don’t have any health insurance.
Is it the shareholders demanding more return in their equity (again)
Hell my dogs health insurance tripled since the last year so I need to shop around
Well I, for one, am utterly flabbergasted
Open it to foreign players, bring competition.
Eventually they are going to make health insurance utterly unaffordable for the majority. What will they do then the gouging gits
Wait wait wait…
What is the excuse? Inflation? Fuel price? Covid? Ukraine?
Mine went up a lot last year , I worked out how much I had paid and how much it had benefited me.
And it was useless, I didn’t get access to better or faster access healthcare so I cancelled it.
I was basically treated in the public system so there’s no point in paying money for no difference.
Edit there’s nothing wrong with the public system in terms of quality it’s just the waiting times
I was in a Dublin hospital recently for my kids surgery.
Once they found out I had healthcare they asked for me to sign a document that stated I would pay for the procedure with my healthcare. Whereas if I never had healthcare I still wouldn’t have had to pay…
So would anyone know if that’s common practice and are the hospitals charging healthcare companies through the nose to offset costs?
I had to switch to a cheaper plan this year, my premium was going up by nearly €40 a month. Under 35, no underlying condition, rarely even have a GP visit during the year.
And FFG want us on a more private health service
All providers have been cutting what they’ll actually cover for years now while raising excesses. Low and mid level plans are shite.
Laughs in medical card
Being sick ain’t cheap!!
Mine has only had modest increases and the cover has remained the same. I would use it heavily with the benefit I get outweighing what I put in about 4-5 fold.
If you’re sick long-term then it’s very good value, if you’re never sick then I guess it’s poor value but isn’t that the nature of health insurance?
Most people with health insurance are over-insured, in my experience. It’s a problem with the rigid plans on offer more than anything else.
I got health insurance the last year before they were allowed age loading on policies because I panicked. After a few months my Mrs needed a scan for a suspected tumour so I called them up and it turned out they didn’t cover that particular scan. We went private and cancelled the policy.
I had a look through the policy and that of other providers and found it really difficult to see what exactly was covered. It seemed you’d need something to happen and then hope for the best. Way more complicated to figure out than phone or energy contracts, despite being obviously way more important.
My Mrs is Bulgarian so anytime we needed something checked or dental work we used to wait until we were visiting her folks to get it done. We’re living there now and we’re in the public health system but private healthcare is way cheaper when we want anything done quickly. That said, waiting lists for public healthcare are never too long.
I think in Ireland, if you’re in good health and on a limited budget you’re better off taking the risk of going private when you’re worried about something and need tests, and switching to the public system if you’ve a serious problem. Once you’re diagnosed you’ll get treatment as good as in private healthcare. You’ll probably be on a ward as opposed to a private room, but I’d actually prefer that.
400 a month for health insurance and still had to spend 7 hours in A+E. It’s a scam.
