There’s no such thing as the Roman Salute. At least, this isn’t it.

It’s the Nazi/Fascist salute… Stop calling it the Roman fucking salute

I don’t know exactly, but I guess it is not forbidden in Italy, is it?

There are like two people in that whole group who are doing a roman salute (the lady and the guy in the blue shirt next to her). The rest are all doing a very obvious hilter salute

This is a bot to get people to think and say roman instead of hitler. Thats the new conditioning by Trump & Co. Lets change the name of the behavior.

They are not fans of Augustus or Nero. They are fucking fascists and racists and they should be treated the way fascists and racists should be treated.

    9. Not even in the same direction. Fitting for the ideology of losers

Blaming random minorities for their issues is a way of searching for simple answers to many serious problems, in the hope of finding a simpler life in a complex world.

    11. I remember the last pictures of Mussolini, I think they need an history book for dummies.

Why do I feel Trump would like to buy all of these guys Gold cards for entry to the United States? (And by *buy* I mean having one of his sycophants pay for their cards)

I’m pretty sure this salute wasn’t actually performed by the Romans, so it’d be inaccurate to call it a Roman salute, unless it’s not evoking the imagery of Ancient Rome (but fascist regimes deliberately did this?).

~~It may be inspired by the Roman “adlocutio” gesture(?) we see on statues (eg Augustus), which is also effectively an outstretched arm, but calling this a Roman salute is a false equivalence.~~ (edit: I may be wrong in this paragraph)

      It’s a Nazi/fascist salute.

Spoiler alert: this does in fact resemble the beginnings of the real growth of the German Nazi party.

It feels like nobody is doing anything to curtail this kind of online radicalization of young men. Why?

      Nazi salute *

Stop with this Roman salute shit , it’s plain nazi fascism

    16. hectorbrydan on

You mean fascists, no sympathizing about it. Fascists gave nazi salute.  Why couch it and pretend otherwise?

    17. The_RedfuckingHood on

Bruh, that ain’t no Roman salute. That’s the salute the Angry Austrian with the funny mustache used.

A bit of context by a local:

Basically they have this annual meeting to commemorate a university student killed in the ’72, Carlo Falvella, by left extremist. In the picture one can’t see it, but they are near a tombstone/monument in his honour.

For an introductory a general understanding of italian political terrorism in those days, of which Carlo Falvella’s death is an episode: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Years_of_Lead_(Italy)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Years_of_Lead_(Italy))
