Our culture was widespread incest, institutionalisation of ‘women who had opinions’ in psychiatric hospitals, society-wide child abuse and child sexual abuse, rampant alcoholism, amongst the lowest educational attainment rates in Europe, and being desparately poor and backward in pretty much every way.
Opening ourselves to other cultures is what changed that.

People seem to be employing serious doublethink here.
It’s fine for people of Irish, English, French heritage to become minorities in their cities because once someone is born in those countries they are exactly as Irish, English or French as the native population regardless of their integration.
The very same people will also claim that the Israelis are Eastern Europeans pretending to be Arabs. (I agree with this)
These are clearly conflicting views.
If the population of Ireland is of majority non Irish heritage, then it is no longer the same country and Irish people will be a minority within the country, the same way that Israel is a completely different place to what it was 100 years ago on account of it being populated my a different people.
Multiethnic, multicultural countries very very often end up in civil war and extreme social unrest, see Lebanon, Yugoslavia, Sudan etc. even look at the social unrest in the USA caused by racial tensions. The current levels of immigration into this country do not allow for integration and could very well end up with similar levels of violence, but the wealthy will have made their quick buck so it’s fine.
The government through councils are driving up the price of houses to house refugees & other immigrants and locals are been outbid on houses meaning the local person can’t afford a house but people not from ireland have a house instead ? … how is that right ?
