Why the fuck are companies allowing this shit. I couldn’t even get mine to make a Ghibli picture half the time due to copyright.

One in FIVE???? As in 20% of all young people? Surely this was miscalculated by an order of magnitude, right? Right???

taking an issue, which is a real issue, and blowing it up to unrealistic proportions, marginalizes the issue and does a disservice to everyone affected by it, by muddying the waters

97% just looks like they are either lying, or purposely selected a group to blow up the number

honestly 10% is already an appalling enough number

There is no fucking way this stat is accurate. We had some cases that were indeed very popular in the news, but you are telling me that in a typical classroom of 40 students at least 8 have suffered nudes generated by AI???

Don’t get me wrong, I’m terrified about this new trend of using AI for this purpose but it just seems over exaggerated

    6. At 1/5 issue is not just avaibility of tools, its sick culture

Since this is inevitable, considering the lack regulation around Ai, my approach to this is not to give a f*ck, If someone makes nude pic of me like that Ill just simply say its not real and be done with it.

Seeing this after the Florida teacher got arrested after making AI porn of his elementary students 😭😭😭😭 WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE

I doubt it’s this high…yet. The sad reality though is that the speed at which AI is improving and becoming more accessible means it *will* get this high and higher, and for every demographic.

Probably true. Might be the reason why they started so hard enforcing a “No Cameras/No Mobile Phones” in our public swimming pool sites here in Germany and they also forbid the usage of mobile phones by parents and elder kids here in our basic schools.

Well we better start introducing encryption breaking backdoors everywhere, scan peoples pictures, read all their messages and save all their emails! (But not ours) – The European parlement.

This is insane. Tech is evolving way faster than laws or basic human decency can keep up. Imagine being a teenager and someone makes fake nudes of you, and then shares them like it’s a joke. That shouldn’t just be illegal, it should be unthinkable

    13. partialinsanity on

Science fiction has warned us about potential dangers with AI, but as it is right now, AGI or super AI is a long way off, while various forms of narrow AI are available to everyone and can easily be weaponised. As usual, we are our own (each other’s) worst enemy.

Silver lining in all this is that more prevalent deepfakes become, less of an impact they will have to any one’s reputation. Deep Fakes are at their most damaging when they are just prevalent enough that you’d have plenty of petty losers make them of people but not so prevalent that people would still be shocked by them and assume that they are real.

But if there’s fake porn of anyone and everyone, who’s there left to be shocked and appalled? Existence of porn of someone on the internet would become disconnected from any reputational damage to the said individual.

I could see this being a popular bullying tactic for kids. The modern, dystopian version of pulling girls by their ponytails. This is only going to get worse.

Serious question: Under what circumstances do we “need” a genuine use for AI nudify apps/deepfakes? Feel like those kind of apps should be instantly banned.

At least with something like AI voice cloning you can argue that (with permission/consent) you can carry on with someone’s work after their passing, like that one deceased actor in Cyberpunk who’s family gave permission to voice a character in a DLC.

    17. stormdahl on

How do kids even make AI generated nudes, it’s not like any big AI service can do that?? Are they learning how to use somewhat advanced tech for the sole reason of being creepy assholes?

    18. MartaLSFitness on

Don’t AI systems have a filter or something to prevent this? Chatgpt won’t even say anything offensive.

Yesterday I tried to create an image of Pedro Sánchez eating a hotdog with mustard and ketchup on his mouth and Chatgpt told me to fuck off because it was offensive.

Read it for 10 seconds, seems like the survey is with 1000 cases… you couldn’t determine any data for a small town with that little cases. Still not good, don’t get me wrong, but i don’t think this paints a full picture.

This is prime reason why I took all my pictures from Instagram down

All I’ll say is that none of this is surprising, and guys we had omegle and periscope growing up, the sheer amount of actual grooming on the Internet is borderline infinite. Unrestricted ability to live stream is one of the biggest issues. If anything they’re better of it’s just AI deepfakes.

    22. Cold_Casey23 on

Ain’t save the children the same organisation that gave support for chat control 2.0 nowadays ProtectEU (at least in Finland), if I’d have to guess this is one of those “oohh look big numbers now we want EU to install spyware onto your devices cuz uuuhh it’s for the children!!”

    23. Finngolian_Monk on

Is there a link to the actual study? I couldn’t find it published anywhere

    24. Moosplauze on

I’m pretty sure you can’t generate nude deepfakes with ChatGPT, at least I hope so. If there are specialised engines that are used for creating this content, which I would assume is illegal, then why can’t authorities close those websites down, confiscate the engines and put those responsible on trial?
