I’d really like to claim the benefit of never hearing another word she says. It’s not **that** easy.

    2. schnoodle7 on

Too easy to come to the UK, give birth, return to the country youre originally from, then have that kid go back as well i think Kemi

      >”It is not unreasonable to expect someone to have paid in and become a British citizen before they unlock access to sickness benefits,” Badenoch said.

Is she aware that those with limited leave cannot access sickness benefits, and those with indefinite leave have already paid into the system for at least 5 years, especially considering the 5-figure sum they have paid to the Home Office in addition to the tax system?

      > A Labour Party spokesperson said: “The Conservatives had 14 years to reform welfare.

I guess Labour deserves at least 5 years of failed reforms before we can criticise them?

    5. CaptMelonfish on

if only the tories had say, 15 years or so to work on this…

I have rheumatoid athritus goute thyroid problems sciatica ulnar nerve damage and yet I still work 90 hours a week because when I went sick and trick to ask for help due to not being able to keep a job they scrutinised me, ridiculed me into shame and so I jave to tale 5 times over the limit of my painkillers to get through my shifts and im still in agony. I cant describe the pain and the anxiety it causes. But id rather work myself into a early grave than be at the mercy of “benefits” …too easy to claim …I got nothing

    8. SpaceNuggetImpact on

Especially when your rich, you get stuff handed to you left, right and centre, I wonder how much free stuff she gets as an MP

    9. cmfarsight on

I think shes getting her expenses claim and benefits confused

    10. Infamous-Lake-1126 on

Until MPs stop getting free first class flights (amoung others things) courtesy of the tax payer, it’s frankly hard for me to give a toss about Shannon from Scunthorpe getting a few takeaways and bottles of frosty Jacks with money she “shouldn’t” have.

    11. AreYouNormal1 on

I do think it’s outrageous that some people in Britain are raking it in without working or contributing to society.

Landlords, shareholders. About time they got off their arses and worked for a living rather than sponging off other’s hard work.

    12. MarvZealous on

Maybe for some. But I couldn’t get a disabled badge for my mother with Alzheimer’s because her legs worked. Never mind she could just walk into traffic.

    13. HussingtonHat on

Literally every co plaint they have is easily slapped down with “you had fucking ages to sort that and didn’t, stop pretending you care about it.”

    14. OldAndBald2025 on

“Mr Speakaaaaaar…” If I could, I’d be happy never hearing her annoying, self satisfied, smug voice and seeing her face ever again…

    15. Luke_4686 on

There’s no way she is taking the Tory’s into the next GE. After next year’s locals she is being replaced for sure. Even for the conservatives she’s scraping the bottom of the barrel

    16. BusyBeeBridgette on

I don’t think she has ever seen some one who is having a mass panic attack due to social anxiety.

    19. Oreo-sins on

It’s easy to do a lot of things in the uk, it’s easy to exploit the system so you don’t pay your fair share or hoard resources that are a necessity. However, guess those aren’t important even though they’re clearly detrimental to the country. Benefits which is proven time and time again, that the amount it cost to police isn’t worth as much as the people who are exploiting that system are always the easy target. Just to make the everyday person struggle, while the elite can get off exploiting the country and people.

    20. Next_Replacement_566 on

Well Kemi, your lot made a lot of people redundant, stalled the economy so it had to be restarted and Tories used poor peoples money.

    21. 7hyenasinatrenchcoat on

I think it should be illegal to say “It’s too easy to claim benefits” if you have never yourself claimed benefits and the punishment for breaking the law should be getting laughed out the building immediately upon saying it.

    22. mootymoots on

How they have the balls to complain about how anything is too hard or easy in the UK after “leading” the country for 15 years is beyond me ….

    23. JackStrawWitchita on

Why are we even listening to anything her or the Tories have to say? They are completely irrelevant as a political party and will soon be gone for good.

    24. GreatBritishHedgehog on

Some stats from her speech that stood out:

      – 1/4 people now considered disabled

      – 90% of Motability cars are NOT adapted in any way

      – People with drink and drug problems are considered disabled and given a free car

      – Food intolerances can also unlock a free car

    25. blob8543 on

What seems to be too easy is to become Tory leader without having any particular skills for the job.

    26. She is surely a transitional leader? There is no way they will run with her in 2029

    27. TurbulentLifeguard11 on

It’s too easy to become leader of the Conservative Party too, if some of the last several have been anything to go by, but here we are.

    28. ManOnNoMission on

I have no doubt she has no clue about applying for benefits.

    29. Particular_Owl8365 on

      SHE’S RIGHT!

You can be paid far more on the benefits system than actually working! Its a fucking joke.

Just because she’s a tory people want to just ignore what she’s saying even though its factual

    30. AidyCakes on

I agree, it’s far too easy for MPs to claim expenses and leave tax payers to foot the bill

    31. Street_Adagio_2125 on

Ah let’s just check who was in charge of it for 14 of the last 15 years shall we…

    32. LibFozzy on

It is not too easy to claim benefits. It is, if anything much too hard and cruel and process.

It is however far too easy to become leader of the Conservative Party.

    33. Zenigata on

I had to help a relative apply for dla. We had to collect evidence from every state, educational and healthcare body they’d ever dealt with and fill out a colossal form of 20 somethings pages of ambiguously worded questions. it was anything but easy.

    34. Logical_Classic_4451 on

Says a member of one of the worst groups for claiming everything … about time MPs had to live on the crap wages and benefits they harp on about. No expenses, no second jobs , no gold plated pension, minimum wage sick pay…

    35. _pierogii on

Disability benefits for those who have British citizenship only. Fantastic. Because refugees are famously always in very good health, both mentally and physically, with all of their limbs intact. We don’t have enough homeless on the streets apparently.

Great way to have more people working through and masking mental health breakdowns – that never spirals and goes seriously wrong in any way.

      She’s a delight.

ETA: I used to work in a special school. Met a lot of foreign nationals who *only* came to the UK because their child couldn’t get their needs met in their home countries. Autism is a big one that just isn’t understood. I hope she isn’t lumping in DLA in her posturing – that would be devastating for so many vulnerable families.

    36. KindlyReflection6020 on

1/4 of the country disabled? Seriously? I keep on hearing about the disability stats and I am not sure I really believe them.

    37. ilikebiiiigdicks on

How can she bare faced lie about how the system works? IMMIGRANTS CANNOT CLAIM BENEFITS. It is literally impossible. There are no exceptions. This applies to students, asylum seekers, tourists, and any other type of migrant you can think of.

The only people who can claim benefits are British nationals, those with indefinite leave to remain and maybe some work visa categories, which is essentially the path to citizenship. There may be others I’m unaware of but the fact of the matter is these people she’s describing CANNOT CLAIM BENEFITS!!!

Also, I’m fed up of having *my own safety net* villainised. I might need it soon and I would rather not have to navigate a kafka-esque system just to claim what is rightfully mine and what *I have already paid for*. Can’t this inhuman cow just fuck off?

    38. cthulhu-wallis on

From someone who was helicoptered into the uk, just for birth via an nhs her mum has never paid into, I can tell she’s never actually tried to claim benefits in the uk.

    39. She’d know about it. After all, it’s not by merit that she’s the Tory leader.

    40. PangolinOk6793 on

How cares what the leader of the 4th (or maybe even 5th) largest party after the 2029 election has to say on anything.

    41. Dan_Dan_III on

My and many other people’s claim for PIP due to mental illness under the tories was a complete sham.
It was undertaken by a junior nurse who had no experience of mental illness.
She wanted to play a numbers game.
E.g. “How many times a week.”
” Not at all when I’m so depressed I cannot get out of bed.”
Was not a good enough answer.
