    1. >Nearly 60 Labour MPs have demanded the UK immediately recognises Palestine as a state, after Israel’s defence minister announced plans to force all residents of Gaza into a camp on the ruins of Rafah.

      >The MPs, who include centrist and leftwing backbenchers, sent a letter to David Lammy on Thursday warning they believed Gaza was being ethnically cleansed.

Seems to be related to the fear that once they’ve been moved off the land they’ll never be moving back

This won’t happen, because there’s no defined state boundaries, no state capital, no government (that isn’t a recognised terrorist organisation). How do you recognise a non-defined state? Especially when some define it’s area to include the State of Israel.

Historically, Syria Palaestina was a Roman province, the boundaries extended beyond the British Mandate of Palestine into modern day Jordan (previously known as Transjordan).

None of this will help the plight of the Palestinian Arabs in Gaza and the West Bank.

Have the concerns that have stopped us previously recognising the territory been addressed?. No.

Is this being done as an emotional reflex to an immensely complicated situation?. Yes.

Is that how a responsible government made up of functioning adults behaves?. Absolutely not.

I wonder if the MPs can explain where the borders of the Palestinian state will be, and how it proposes to live and prosper peacefully with its neighbors.

With a stalling economy, house prices rising, water companies failing, elcrotcity prices crippling. What should we focus on, yes the politics of the middle east
