Well they’re not going to boast about it are they. Gangsters the lot of them. Only a matter of time before shoplifting becomes socially acceptable in the squeezed middle.

Make them publish a breakdown of costs on everything they sell. I’ve always maintained every business should have to do this.

They will and have to deny gouging. Some of the price differences between here, UK or EU countries makes no sense.
For example, large retailers blame increases in chocolate products on global supply shortages/ market forces. However in Germany and Austria, basic Aldi ‘Choceur’ or Lidl ‘Fin Carre’ milk /dark 100gms bars are now .75c/.79c respectively versus €1.49 here..They used to be .45 and .49c in both countries and .75c here. So here they have doubled in price and they have just went up by 50% in DE/AT. If it was market forces, prices in DE/AT should also have doubled. So in my view, they are making super normal profits on those products in Ireland.

When has a company ever admitted to doing something wrong?

I hope they ban the idiotic “clubcard” nonsense at least. It just gives supermarkets a way to mystify the average shopper.

We totally not price gouging
But anyway, look at our super duper record braking profits

Well, that’s good enough for me so.

Of course they have reasons for ripping off.
What I want to know, what are they?
Because someone is definitely raking in profits somewhere… After all, all those increases are going somewhere

Then why not disclose profits? The reason they haven’t done so is because they’re lying, if they hardly made any profits they’d release it.

Retailler margins in ireland are wafer thin. In the 2-4% region. If they are gouging , they aren’t doing a very good job of it.
But thats not going to make headlines on reddit

“Never believe anything until it’s officially denied.”
Nobody read the article, did they?
Power suppliers, insurance companies and landlords unequivocally agree that retailers are not price gouging
lawnmower denies cutting grass
I also denied eating my husbands chocolate bar last week. I totally did it, but I did deny it, so should be grand.
Retailers are full of shit.
Well…. You’d kinda expect them to deny it like.
