Honestly surprised its not more with the price of pub drinks

As I always say 2 options

1 buy 8 cans of anything for less than 25 euro

2 buy 8 pints of anything for over 42 Euro

      Choice is yours

Pubs are are a cultural landmark and the cornerstone of communities to the point they must be subsidised by the government, but don’t you dare ask for any other entertainment options like cannabis cafes or later opening hours for nightclubs, they’ll destroy society.

It’s really hard to feel sorry for any publican though… Price rise after price rise and now they’ve priced themselves out of the market

I always find it funny they think changing VAT or anything will help. It needs to be changed for consumers. But yet they petitioned minimum alcohol unit pricing still not understanding that
People’s have wised up to drinking and are doing it less as its absurdly priced and unhealthy

Pricing themselves out of a market unfortunately and the breweries aren’t helping either.

Good. Legalised drug dealers, ruining families for generations.

People are citing cost but it’s not all that. The price of the pint was proportionally more expensive to income at points in the past to today.

A large part is People are different in 2025 to 1995.

Go back 30 years ago and the reality was that lots of towns and villages in Ireland had lots of pubs. Drink was expensive but people still made their choice to give their money to them. People don’t make that decision nowadays. I’ve read stuff like “i can’t afford my rent and going out”. People couldn’t really afford it back then either and yet did it. Similarly, many pubs saw family men, often with kids at home, give their entire day and money to the pub.

People have different interests, hobbies that means not spending their entire day in some dark pub.

Add to that drink drinking laws, and those rural pubs that decided not to serve food became dinosaurs.
