Ciao a tutti

Sto installando una luce a sospensione nel mio salotto. Qualcuno sa se è necessario un cavo terrestre per questo? È una luce DCL (il nuovo standard UE). La tazza è realizzata in plastica.

    Grazie

    1. Probably no. There is no earth wire coming from the transformer. So, there is no where to attach it to.

That said, I’m not and expert. If you are unsure you might want to consult an expert.

Not in this application, no. However you have stripped the white cable too far. The isolation should stop inside the two screw holes, as there is most likely a clamp built into the case there to hold it in place.

No, there is a SELV transformer. Those do not use a grounding. There is nothing to ground.

    4. As someone who works in a light store and sell lamps for a living there is no need to ground this one. The pendant itself is not grounded so nothing to ground too! Just make sure you screw tight and pull lightly on the cables to make sure they are stuck.

I’m hate it. Who was so clever to invent  this socket? It suck.

And earth cable? As opposed to a space cable? Think you are trying to say if you need a grounded cable. And no you don’t need a earth or grounded cable.

The light itself doesn’t have a ground cable. Using a plug with a ground cable would not make any difference.

Not needed for this. But looks like the white cable is stripped a bit too much. The end of it should end in the casing. Easy fix if you trim down the blue and brown coming out of it a touch.

No. The light is only fed with a live and a neutral wire (the brown and blue conductor respectively) as seen in the box. Had it been fed with a third conductor, most likely yellow/green, then it would have required a ground connection at the DCL socket.

    10. Ground is rarely used in roof lights in Sweden unless you’re using a light fixture.

You’ve mostly done everything correct, but like others mentioned you will have to stuff in, or re-strip the white cable so that the sleeve fits under the “anti-tugg” bar. I’ll DM a photo with a picture.

I’m no electrician, but earth is nice to have not a necessity. I for example live in an older apartment where the kitchen is the only room with newer outlets. Would be nice to have it in every room, just to be safe but I still have electricity.

Might be confusing earth and ground somehow though? (Me not you)

Everyone is saying ”no, not needed”. While that is true I would like to say that the reason for that is that the light fixture is probably not metallic. There would be nothing to ground.

    14. Generally speaking, if the housing of a device is non conductive, it doesn’t have an earth cable.

Regular people dont have a wire cutter and expect their products to be ready for use
