Sounds like time for another round of incredibly lucrative executive bonuses and shareholder payouts to me.
Why don’t they just sack everybody above the first level of management.
The only people who would be left are the only ones doing any useful work anyway.
Think of the cost savings!
how do you lose money in a monopoly to supply water ? I pay £70 a month at moment for water rates.
Honestly can you think of another product that falls from the sky for free. All you have to do is deliver it to your customers in your monopoly.
The apathy in this country is why things will only get worse.
This really is the scandal that continues to be scandalous. It really was money for old rope being an executive within the water industry. Perhaps raw sewage would be more appropriate.
If this company is in £20bn debt and needs to be nationalised. First of all every single shareholder should get nothing. Fuck you. You play the markets and this is what happens. Grow up and deal with it. You’re not entitled to anything playing the markets, and your capital is always at risk etc.
Secondly. How has it managed to accrue this debt. It’s obvious they weren’t spending lots of money actually investing into the network or improving service. So where has it gone?
Of course it will take ten years. It solidifies your job security. If I made it economically worth your while you could probably turn it around in two.
Chris Weston, the chief executive, said: “We are progressing with our senior creditors’ plan to recapitalise the business which will see us return to a more stable financial foundation.
“This will come with a requirement to re-set the regulatory landscape and acknowledge it will take at least a decade to turn Thames around.”
Aka the regulator needs to let us take the piss for another decade.
We need to start naming the people in charge of these companies and stop allowing them to hide behind the company name. Get their full names and faces out there. Let everyone know who is screwing us.
They shouldn’t be allowed to slink away onto their boats and avoid public scorn.
Do a compulsory asset deal, Transfer the assets only, not the liabilities, to government ownership and give them one pound as a purchase price. That would be charity.
Ensure that all other commercial operators understand that in order to obtain a now compulsory license to operate they need to meet the highest standards of delivery and the lowest prices.
If they are no longer viable businesses they too can be purchased for 1 pound.
What has happened in the UK water sector is just theft, simply theft of tax payer and customer money.
It is in effect organized crime (looking strait at you Tory party). Every effort should be made to ensure that profits from it are seized.
Loses for the consumers the executives, will continue to enjoy bumper pay rises and bonuses, even if you have to beg for more emergency money from the government.
They’ve taken all the money and surely taken loans out to cover the shareholders payouts. What the customer needs like leaks fixed or new reservoirs don’t matter. Privatisation is a pyramid scheme designed to scam the customers and government.
They have an effective monopoly on a product that is absolutely essential for human life.
How catastrophically incompetent do you have to be to be running at a loss?
Should every Thames Water customer just stop paying their bills in protest until the government renationalise and shareholders lose all their shares? If I were one I think I’d be doing that.
Someone woke up, read this and thought “Crap, no salary and bonus’ for ten years”
If you own shares then you own part of the company. That debt belongs to the shareholders. Shares should be a liability if the company behaves in the way these companies have.
Its annoying that there feels like there’s nothing we can do to get back at them. Even this government are sitting on their hands with this one.
honestly, is the gov looking at this ? are they doing anything ?
Seize the fucking company, prosecute the executives, profit politically.
Remember shareholders, the values of your investment may go up or down…
And that’s if we started today and stopped paying massive bonuses.
Which we won’t.
It’s insane that they can rack up losses this huge while charging customers through the nose for an essential service. You’d think a monopoly would at least be profitable, but nope, just another case of corporate mismanagement getting rewarded. And you just know the execs will walk away with golden parachutes while the rest of us foot the bill. Absolute joke of a system.
