So there was a very real risk and people lost their lives as a result.
There’ll be a chorus of online voices complaining about the cost, suggesting that we should ‘support British people first’ I’m sure.
Well, these people put their lives on the line to support and help British servicemen and women, and for that they deserve our respect and help.

Why did this mean we had to let them move here ffs

The plan as recently as February this year, under Sir Keir Starmer’s current Labour administration, was to relocate 25,000 people, at a potential cost of £7bn, according to a government estimate.
From FT article
Britain is not a serious country.

The government used an unprecedented super-injunction to prevent discussion of this for two years, a process which involved Conservative and Labour ministers under Sunak and then Starmer. The injunction prevented the news from reaching Afghans – it prevented not only the journalists from publishing the story, but it also prevented the MoD from investigating the breach or the extent to which the Taliban were aware of the breach.
Lewis Goodall (LBC) believes it was initially politically motivated, given the likelihood of an election the Sunak government decided to prevent public discussion of a leak given the embarrassment and the potential impacts on asylum numbers if Afghans believed they were in imminent danger. Starmer and Labour ministers then continued the injunction.
He also says there are still aspects of the story which he is not legally allowed to share. One judge overseeing the secret legal proceedings between the government and journalists described it as “democracy being put in cold storage”, and became concerned that super-injunctions would be used in the future to hide information from the public.
The ARAP scheme was stopped last month, just before the injunction ended and the breach was revealed. A coincidence, I think not.

£7bn, paid by you, to import tens of thousands of Afghans who will need council houses, education, healthcare indefinitely, and that’s before you even mention the crime. Unbelievable.

How can anyone argue about saving money on welfare as we secretly spend £7 billion to send tens of thousands of Afghans here? How much did Jenrick know about this? Why are our governments so insane?

What an absolute disgrace from the MOD. How was this ever allowed to be leaked.
Will cost the government billions and will mean tens of thousands of Afghans are going to be moved to the UK. Reform will have a field day with this.
Is there any room for another nail in the Tory coffin?
Now i’m wondering which will be the first shitrag, to blame Starmer
This will just put off people from working as our allies in the future!

Can someone explain this to me like the idiot I am?
Why is it specifically afghani people and how are their lives in danger?
If they were at risk because they were supporting British troops and civillians on the ground then this is 100% the right thing to do.
Countless translators, facilitators and local experts were used and were absolutely vital in keeping British lives safe.
Many of them got absolutely hung out to dry when the West left, so I’m glad to hear that the UK did its duty here.
* The [government](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/government) was prepared to evacuate more than 42,000 people affected by the data leak at an estimated cost of £7bn
* At least 17 people on the dataset are believed to have been killed by the [Taliban](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/taliban), 14 of these after the leak occurred
So there was a very real risk and people lost their lives as a result.
