> Pupils in England should be taught what the law is on biological sex and gender reassignment
Even lawyers can’t agree on what the law is regarding trans people, let alone teachers
Maybe the Government should work out what the hell the law is then, because its currently a mess and likely won’t be clarified until some test cases work their way through the court.
Then again, Sex Matters are apparently not happy with the guidance, so it can’t be all bad.
>The guidance allows primary school teachers to discuss the sharing of naked images or online sexual content if it is something that is affecting their pupils, and they can discuss online sexual content where they know that children have seen pornography
Tabloid journalists will be salivating at the “horrified parent” stories they can milk out of this…
As if the government don’t have more important things to be worrying about right now
Could they not just teach kids to respect people regardless of any specific differences between them, regardless of what any law says.
*Schools “should not teach as fact that all people have a gender identity”* is interesting. I had assumed this must have been taken out of context but p36-37 of the guidance does just say *they should be careful not to endorse any particular view or teach it as fact. For example, they should not teach as fact that all people have a gender identity* without any further comment.
I’d be surprised if the authors intended for this to be interpreted as referring to agender people, but I can’t work out what they intend. Even if you hold the belief that that being transgender or non-binary is somehow not a real thing, then surely that just means that you would equate gender identity with whatever sex was recorded when you were born.
What exactly is the law? You can change your gender, get a Gender recognition certificate and be classed as a woman but also the law recognises you’d still be a man.
2020- “we shouldn’t be confusing school children with perverted lessons on sex and gender!”
2025- “we demand you teach our school children the specific details of sex and gender!”
Wasn’t the whole argument for years that pupils couldn’t be allowed to know trans people exist, but now suddenly it’s “actually that’s fine, just only as part of telling students that they’re an underclass with no rights” , completely logically consistent.
Pretending trans kids dont exist is exactly what section 28 did. Whether the phobes like it or not they DO and all this disgraceful bill will do is cause them more suffering.
I was 11 when Section 28 came in. I lived it. This is no different.
Can pupils be taught *all* of the basic laws please?
Nowhere in the curriculum is the law on fishing (you need a license) or parking (how do you decode those cryptic signs), clothing (is it a crime to go topless?), money (if I bet on something do I have to pay up?), etc taught. Is it illegal to buy and sell for a profit on ebay (no, but you need to fill in forms over £1000/yr)? Can I cut off someone’s arm if they agree to it? (no). Can I get a refund if a company doesn’t send goods I paid for? (yes, but you have many more rights if you paid with a credit card than a debit card/cash). Will I go to prison if I don’t pay bills? (no). Is it illegal to walk across someone else’s garden (no, as long as you do no damage). Can my landlord kick me out if he doesn’t like me? (Usually no)
Knowing the law of your own country is a basic part of living somewhere. And yet we don’t teach it.
