Brave of you to assume that when these people lose an election, they’ll concede.

The students have already formed their list of proffesors and academics, with every faculty voting for their own candidates. No opposition or government party member is allowed on the list. They havent publicly released the list yet, theyre waiting for the government to actually call snap elections first, because they dont want to expose their candidates to unnecessary media attacks before the elections are even called. Its platform is mostly on based anti-corruption, democracy and civil rights, all the things the protesters have been fighting for in the last 9 months. This is a huge shift too-The first time any list other than Vucics is leading. These poll results are sort of confirmed by local elections in Kosjeric, a rural town in Western Serbia where SNS had over 80% support last time, now barely reaching 49% to Oppositions 48%. Also, the big difference is also confirmed by the fact that Vucic seems to be refusing to call early elections, even though he always did so before, with Serbia having 5 snap elections since he got to power in 2012. He has always bragged about how he is so legitimate that he can have elections whenever, it doesnt matter to him. He wont hold on to office like his life depends on it. And now, when hes down and students are calling for elections, he chikens out. Students have long said they dont want just a cosmetic government change-but a change of the entire system.

Serbia is not friends with rest of europe though. Wouldnt they likely be more pro russia if the will of the people decide the politics?

I honestly don’t understand why did the Hungarians or Serbians elect those men into power.
It’s one thing to have a corrupt politician in power and it’s another thing to have a Russian bootlicker in power.
I may understand tolerating the first because you may give excuses for it and I may even understand tolerating a war criminal or a mass murderer in power but tolerating a politician who is the servant of a foreign autocrat that want to expand territory in Europe including their own countries without hesitation if it was possible to do so.
I am not an European and Europe’s interests don’t concern me but I never understood the intelligence of those voters. They are the true testament of useful idiots voting against their own interests. I can never for the love of the Lord understand why democracies willingly do this to themselves. We will need a lot of studies on the psychology of voters to know more.

Orban, Fico and Vucic out by 2027 would be a dream scenario but I don’t want to get my hopes up too high.

As I keep saying, it better fucking be.
So far it’s still wishful thinking at best, despite everything, we’ll just have to see when it actually happens.
Please don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
Everyone thought Erdogan was out, especially after the earthquake. He still won with safe margins. Polls underestimated Trump numbers all the time.
Bottom line ppl need to show up to vote, as we did in Poland in 2023. Only high attendance pushed us past the curb, otherwise we would still have conservative government.
We had just a bit lesser showing during our presidential elections and far right candidate won in 2025, by slimmest of margins. At least in Poland it shows how right wing voters are disciplined and show up regardless of circumstances and political climate. So it’s always about turnout, getting those more complacent or on side lines to actually care about elections.
As usual with polling, those more radical and conservative views don’t partake in them often, because of lack of trust and hiding their more radical beliefs. But they will show up at ballot boxes for sure.

This is a fantasy scenario where only these two sides go to election.
One side doesn’t even exist, because there is no “Student list”.
Student protests were accompanied by some support from extreme far right četniks (fascist, nazi collaborators in ww2). There were speakers whining about Kosovo and how it will return to serbia, there were talks about republika srpska and so on.
This is a real nothing-burger.

Sadly Orbán is spreading an increasingly more unhinged disinformation campaign that Ukraine is systematically attacking Hungarians across the border so he’s pushing for “resistance” while also claiming that all his enemies, i.e. his opposition, are being puppeteered by foreign agents as well, very likely in an effort to create a conflict with the Ukrainian government itself so he can introduce martial law or just use his already existing emergency powers his party all alone introduced and legalized and suspend the elections next year. Dictator-wannabes don’t give up power if they have any chance of becoming a legit dictator

As a Hungarisn, Im still afraid that Orbàn is yet to play a final trap card to remain in power…
Currently, I cannot exclude the possibility to do false-flag attacks inland and blame Ukraine for it, declairing marshal law, and simply not hold the elections

Interesting thing about Serbia is the country has a large number of Russian expats who are against Pres Putin. During the .asthma Russian elections the expat community voted against him in huge numbers.

How is Orban a dictator?
Vučić is not a dictator. The opposition Is literally pro-russian/palestinian and nationalist, against lithium/EU/Germany/Israel. https://www.19fortyfive.com/2025/03/the-protests-in-georgia-and-serbia-should-not-be-equated/
