Sensitive is an understatement.
The judge said, given the “sensitive” nature of the case he was directing that Mr O’Donoghue’s sentencing hearing would be scheduled on its own.
The law explicitly allows someone to be charged with manslaughter or murder for deliberately killing someone with a car, and this is probably the most clear cut case of that we’ve seen in years.
The DPP are sending a statement here that they will literally never use that power under any circumstances, and the worst you can possibly get for murdering someone with a car is Dangerous Driving Causing Death.
This was an honour killing and the DPP have chosen to prosecute it as a traffic accident because it’ll let them knock off and get to the pub a bit earlier.
Poor woman.
Sensitive …read: protect the minority traveller community…let them handle their own business and flout all laws, sure just keep turning a blind eye.

Honour Killings are surprisingly common in that community but it’s kept all hush hush, happened in my town and there was nothing about it on the news.
