The article dates back to two months ago, which, these days, are quite a while.
      Anyway

      >It’s now time for Europe to double down on these sorts of partnerships—to forge new friendships, and scale up new relationships, all in former colonies. Freed from the strictures of the U.S. bootprint, and while Trump revels in his economic self-destruction, the EU can get in a position to benefit from the world’s fastest-growing regions.

An agreement with Indonesia and Mercosur (probably) has been sealed, and I think with Canada is at a later stage, if I remember correctly. I hope the same is going to be done with Japan and South Korea that, both, have been subjected to tariffs by the United States.

All Europe does is talk. Just do it. Kick out all US troops.

I mean, it’s literally impossible to abandon America at this point. Our societies and cultures are too intertwined at this point. That doesn’t mean we can’t challenge them and call them out on their bullshit, but we’re too spineless to do that.

    4. Full agreement, I’m so tired of the US hostility and instability. We no longer just have to worry about Russia but now our former ally going crazy and threatening to invade European countries, slapping tariffs and coming here talking about freedom of speech, when back home their president is threatening to imprison or deport opponents. Fucking parody.

this article is full of saccharine slogans and bullshit. There are no concrete points on how exactly to fix Europe’s economic decline. All it says is “US is bad, we need to drift away from them” – like this somehow fixes all the problems. This reminds psychology of looser

As an American who travels often to Europe and who is here right now, 100%, I agree. We’ve lost what reputation we’ve had with the Western World.

But first, do something about Orbán and Fico because they are preventing a unified Europe.

I’m American, but if I was the EU I’d make a stronger alliance. Drop all trade barriers and become one economic and defensive unit. The biggest issue with EU independence is you are reliant on a lot of American industries. Military, defense weapons, tech etc.

not all of america, just the usa

canada and a few others are pretty chill

Tell that to the UK. They’re having a hard time crossing that bridge.

US bombs Middle East, Europe is left to deal the fallout of migrant crisis.

US feels greedy, starts a trade war with EU and blackmails everyone.

      What a partner and ally.

Europe can’t even abandon its enemy. How do you think it’s going to go about abandoning its ally?

I also support abandoning the America. The only way that bully has to exert power is through money. Defund and reduce the power of the America dollar, and take that away, and you take away his power.

This sub and its talking points are proof, from this American’s view, that you cannot and will not be able to save yourselves. I see a lot of talk about trade with certain other nations, about “standing together”….you don’t get it.

The parts of your industry, daily life, production you are so behind on intentionally to the benefit of your politicians and some wealthy few. Or fear of spending the ludicrous amounts it would take to compete in certain industries that essentially give the US carte Blanche when coming to any economic discussion. Not to mention the sheer lack of military capability, from having a strong established military culture, to actual weapons, your lacking. You have BEEN lacking. The only area you had was generous social programs, and even now those are increasingly becoming unstable everywhere that isn’t a Nordic country as far as I’m aware.

The EU literally can’t abandon America because of a massive growing dependence because pushing off those duties onto other nations like America has left you vulnerable and needing us. And no politician you elect will correct this because that’s a lot of spending, and the budgets are only getting tighter. It’s a trap, and getting out of it will take a long concerted effort.

Europe is in the exact position it wants to be, holier than thou when comparing itself to kleptocraties, all while working and supporting dictatorships comitting war crimes ( Azerbaijan, Israel, China). Slowly eroding the rights of its citizens where it matters.
