Everyday I read a news article that someone has been let of a prison sentence for having thousands of child porn images. Why do they bother making new laws when they aren’t enforcing the ones we have already? Is it just so it looks like they care or to keep the army of civil servants in a job?

Ah yes. This will definitely be enforceable and also is 100% the cause of domestic violence.

No wonder the UK is becoming the laughing stock of the world.

I think the reason for this is because it’s being viewed as a ‘normal’ sex act by teens.

Folk into BDSM are all about informed consent and respecting boundaries, limits, safety.

Other folk especially impressionable young adults thinking it’s normal are more likely to cause serious damage or death to their partner- usually the girl. So chalk this up for a win for women’s safety

The number of women who overtly say they enjoy being strangled and choked during sex is crazy. I think it’s fair game if people are consenting to it, it’s a pretty mild kink.

I’m not sure what this law is designed to achieve. Are they trying to influence people’s sex lives? Seems very nanny-state-like, which would fit with what British governments like to do.

I also find the language in the article quite startling:

What is a sexual norm? Do we have a list of what these norms are?

Does the government have a booklet on how sex should take place and what should happen during government-approved sex?

Are they going to ban porn where women are trampling on men’s balls too? After all, there’s no safe way to stamp on a man’s balls.

Would that mean a punishment for *viewing* that material, or just producing that material?

I have to imagine there are a whole host of issue with this law.

How do you define *strangulation*? Is it just having hands around a partners throat?

At what point does a squeeze become a strangle? Is it when there’s a visible grip, or just when they turn purple?

Does a strangle have to be done with hands, or are we also counting a from behind, prone position with an arm around the throat in a choke-hold position?

If viewing the material is illegal, who will remove what I’m pretty sure would be thousands and thousands of videos already online? How would we stop every other western country from producing that content, uploading it to western sites and people from out country accidentally seeing it?

I mean, these videos are going to be on mainstream, HTTPS enabled sites. Presumably sites where you need to hand over your ID to access soon. They’re about as secure as they’ve ever been, and they’re STILL going to be hosting this choking content.

Who is this meant to protect? Consenting adults? Because we’ve *just* brought in a law that prohibits anyone who hadn’t handed their ID over to the government from viewing pornography.

Unless we’re admitting to ourselves that this new law doesn’t really do anything other that give a third party, hired by the government, access to a lot of peoples incredibly embarrassing, potentially life destroying data in this up coming, inevitable leak?

Before even getting into all the issues with government bodies intruding on what two consenting adults decide to do with no victims of said acts, I don’t even understand how you’d put any version of this law into practice.

Good. It has become far too normalised.

And I hate that since “strangulation” isn’t a sexy word, people call it “choking”.

Why, though?

Why make more laws for an underfunded police to go after – and why make what two consensual adults do illegal?

Last time they did this it was banning face sitting. But at the same time it was a good distraction from the other laws the were on the same bill that we a bit more questionable.

Of course they are, I cant wait for the first person to be convicted of watching strangulation porn.

So glad we’re tackling the things that really matter like a random blanket ban on another kink in porn. I’m sure that will definitely stop the core issue.

Let’s make more laws about adult material rather than actual enforce current laws about protecting people from assaults etc
