This is how corruption happens. When policing no longer pays cops enough to live, they start being a lot more willing to take a bribe.

Hardly surprising, unless you get a huge leg up from parents or live in an extremely low cost of living area average salaries just aren’t enough to live on for the average person.
Even as a constable, the pay is £50000 after six years of normal conduct.

I was a copper… Progressive governments reduced my salary by £3-4000 a year.
They restructured shift to avoid giving us allowance…(Eg..Saying 1700-0500 wasn’t a night shift etc)
The money is pretty poor…but it’s no different in any government job… The public don’t care I’m afraid… Which is why we have a massive retention issue…

Interesting, not so long ago I was arguing on here with people who claimed that because police hold warrant cards and therefore are never off duty they cant hold second jobs as that’d lead to inevitable conflict after a cop got fired for part-timing as a barman.

That’s fucking shocking. Cops delivering Uber on their day off. Seriously? WTAF!

A police officer has a guaranteed job for life.
No fear of redundancy. All the promotion prospects their ability will carry them to.
Want to move across the country? No worries.
Want to work abroad? Sorted.
Private security? When can you start.
But, nah, let’s complain. I hear everyone else is on £100k and 10% a year payrises!
