I love Belgium, but one thing struck me the other day. I was in Brussels and took a hop-on-hop-off tour bus. Passing by landmarks, the audio description of the tour kept praising the King Leopold II’s achievements. I found that extremely disturbing. Image a tour bus in Germany driving past a nice park and the audio guide saying “Hitler built this park celebrating independence day”.

Dear Belgian sisters and brothers, in this day and age, you cannot continue praising a person like King Leopold II.

Another interesting number which comes to my mind regarding Belgium is 27.

27 witnesses who died of suicides, car accidents, gas explosions, and all manner of other suspicious circumstances related to the Dutroux case.

Interesting numbers and an interesting collection of indicators chosen by eurostat. I get that you want something that represents environmental engagement of the population, but “Recycling rate of electronic waste” feels a little out of place next to indicators such as population and gdp.

    5. Far less of a burn that Bulgaria’s eurostat infographic but still very humorous

Employment rate in Flanders: 78%, in Wallonia: 66%, in Brussels: 61%
Belgium is engaging to go to 80% for the whole of Belgium but that means we still need a lot of work to do.
