      >The government is required to conduct a review into the state pension age – currently 66 – every six years, but it appears to be starting this one earlier as the last one concluded in 2023.

Looks like we’re going to raise pension age by 1 every 3 years instead of 6 now! At this rate I’m saving as if I’m not getting the state pension anymore.

    2. terrordactyl1971 on

Currently 67 for me as I was born in 1971. It better not rise again. Fuckers.

    3. VelvetDreamers on

Oh good, I was wondering what my retirement age will be. By increasing every 3 years inside of 6, I’m looking at 75 as the youngest if they do this.

    4. HinDae085 on

I’ve said this for the last few years. By the time im in my mid 60s there’ll be no retirement age. Work til you drop PEONS.

    5. XenorVernix on

The government are failing to reduce the pensioner spend by abolishing the triple lock, winter fuel payment etc so the only other way to continue paying for all this is to reduce the number of pensioners by raising the retirement age.

You’re working longer to pay for boomer pensions which won’t be as generous when you get there yourself.

And yet the youth still see Labour as the party for them.

    6. Sad_Masterpiece_56 on

I think it’s good when they give themself a raise to over the 3x the average and have expenses covered then attack peoples retirement because why not they didn’t get you pregnant fucking you for 60 years

    7. ottoandinga88 on

I used to be concerned that I’d saved so much in my private pension that I wouldn’t be getting a state pension due to the introduction of means testing, but the rising age gives me the new fear that my private pension will not last long enough to support me even if I plan to totally exhaust it by the time I’m eligible for the state pension

Time to pick up smoking again

    8. Unidan_bonaparte on

If they increase the pension age before they drop triple lock and means test winter allowance then there should be rioting on the streets. The boomers have been the single most destructive, corrosive and selfish generation since we discovered electricity. Forget immigration concerns, at this rate the country should be concerned about mass emigration of working professionals. The social contract has been broken and the young exist to serve the old, not sure if it’s worth it for ever increasing numbers of people anymore.

    9. MasterSparrow on

Get ready to work until you’re dead folks. It’s coming.

    10. wkavinsky on

It’ll go up, because fuck workers, according to every government since Brown in 2008.

    11. Hats4Cats on

With all the equality, why we never address men die younger. Shouldn’t pension age reflect this? Won’t be long until mens life expectancy is lower than the pension age.

    12. Useful_Resolution888 on

Look on the bright side, maybe we’ll all get killed in a war with Russia instead of being slowly but steadily worked to death.

    13. ConnectPreference166 on

I’m 30 and made peace with the fact I won’t have a state pension. No matter what government is in they manage to eff us over

    14. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that given the stress and unsociable hours of my job, and the ever-increasing retirement age, I’m just going to die at work, and all this money I’ve thrown into a pension is a complete waste.

    15. Im in my late 20s, I’m never going to get a state pension at this rate

    16. WearyBearMan on

Look everyone. I know working until your dead seems a tad tough. I know not having basically social structure isn’t ideal. Roads aren’t great. Every metric across society is failing. Pubs and social spaces are all becoming offices and apartments so ou have somewhere to sleep after you work. I know this is hard.

But there are a lot of people who only live within the 250 million to 1 billion wealth frame who have kids they need to set up with endless wealth and we do have some really rich people who could have made slightly more in recent years. How selfish could you be to expect you should have a life when their luxury is threatened slightly?

Anyway it’s all Muhammeds fault so ask him what’s wrong.

    17. swinlands on

The annoying thing is. This won’t impact those on the triple locked pensions who those who are working now are currently paying for. Instead, we will pay for them to have a cushy early retirement and we will be retiring at 70 probably with a means tested pension.

The system needs changing as this is just a direct transfer of wealth from the young to the old

    18. No_Philosopher2716 on

They keep banging on about people living longer. The majority of funerals I’ve been are under 65. The wealthy are living longer, not the average brit

    19. Every year they raise takes 12k out of our pockets. That’s 60 years worth of winter fuel payments.

      It’s utterly bonkers.

    20. Impressive-Car4131 on

I’m expecting it to be about 74 to qualify. I was born 1981.

The big problem is the boomer public sector workers on final salary pensions. They retired in their 50s after getting all their years in and they’ve benefited from triple lock and right to buy cheap housing and they’re looking to live in to their 90s. My family has a bunch of them living their best lives. Great for them but nothing left for the rest of us

    21. Dude4001 on

Not enough jobs? Rapidly advancing technology age? Stagnant economy that needs to modernise?

Yes, 70 year-olds are the ones to handle this future

    22. If the pension age is to be increased then it should be done immediately and not delayed so that it only impacts young people.

    23. PurahsHero on

I’m 43. I’m already assuming that the retirement age will be at least 75 before I have a chance of drawing down my state pension (assuming it exists). I’m also pouring any money I have left over at the end of the month to paying down my mortgage and topping up my pension.

Of course, government should look at getting rid of the triple lock before screwing the current working generation any more. But we all know that will not happen.

    24. smokesletsgo13 on

How are we all supposed to keep working until ~70 when AI/automation takes over a chunk of jobs? And competing with never ending immigration bringing in younger & cheaper applicants?

    25. Vdubnub88 on

We need to be protesting on the streets if they increase pension age.

    26. bogart991 on

Just exaclty how many more years am I expected to work. Given that AI will kill off most of the soft skill jobs (if you think it won’t go ask the cottage weavers how spinng jenny helped them out). it will some sort meanal manual labour job that I am many others are are headed towards. Am I meant to push a dust cart around at till 75 you fuck right off with that Idea.

    27. Competitive_Golf8206 on

      Annnnd there it is

We can’t stop the current benny train so we’re going to fuck everyone currently paying to fuel it.

    28. arabidopsis on

But every boomer and old person said it’s not a benefit and they paid into it so it’s fair and I’m just a liberal millennial!

      /S

    29. Efficient_Sky5173 on

Ohh, they will certainly reduce to 55 now. I’m pretty sure.

    30. Poonchild on

My only advice to all you young fuckers out there: get paying into a private pension pot. As much as you can afford without degrading your quality of life.

This country will abandon you when you most need it.

    31. RevolutionaryTea1265 on

Neither of my parents lived to see retirement. I doubt anyone of my age group will either unless we win the bloody lottery.

    32. AdHot6995 on

The state pension is a nice add on, you can’t live on it, anyone thinking otherwise is in for a rude awakening. Plan not to have it.

    33. CindysExtraTesticle on

It is almost physically impossible to do a lot of jobs in your 70’s, and those are mostly the jobs AI isnt taking, so I don’t know who ot is they expect to working at that age.

Put them on a building site or in a workshop for a week and let them experience what real work is.

    34. Markjohn66 on

I left pretty much immediately after that referendum in 2016. Like all good rats, I know when a ship is sinking.

    35. Maleficent-Gap-2460 on

Oh so we can all work longer To pay more taxes to government officials who squander it all away on asylum seekers hotels and such

Man if I wasn’t performing in my job I’d be sacked or even get a wage cut!!

Absolute disgrace this country has become for legitimate occupants

    36. I’m 18 & i doubt i’m ever gonna retire. They will probably want us working till we are 74 or whatever, by which point you’ll be able to do f all in retirement.

    37. Auctorion on

Why do Labour enjoy not being in government? They’re literally throwing their electability in the bin by opening up the youth vote with one hand and ripping the youth vote’s future away with the other.
