The West should pay a high price for drone technology Ukraine has gained through war.

Ukraine’s drone hardware is valuable, but nowhere near as much as their software and tactics they’ve developed over years of necessity, proven in actual combat. It’d be difficult to put a dollar value on that!

Especially considering the lives it saves by requiring fewer boots on the ground at the front lines.

I agree but the title or wording is wrong. With wording like this it’s as if we owe Ukraine, whilst I agree with that sentiment a lot of people less sentimental towards Ukraine don’t and make it sound as if they, after gifting billions in gear, are owing Ukraine.

*The west should trade advanced missile technology for advanced drone technology

    3. The money is going to be in terms of technology, which should be sold at what’s determined at a market value (being the maximum price third parties are willing to pay given capacity) and also in training, which will probably form a valuable part of the package.

Taking into account the effectiveness of drone technology in the war and that Ukraine is the frontrunner in development of how things are done, this is a huge market with the amount of trial and error R&D that’s already been done.

I’ve never understood how militaries are funded globally as with everything else we set a desires outcome and budget around that, this technology gives a very good option to reduce waste already also.

While Ukraine is developing some innovative solutions to drone development and iterating on software please understand that what is being done isn’t as revolutionary as it seems.

Just in our own older programs(MAV, RQ-14, RQ-2, Perdix) you can see similar design functions and purposes. The reason the USA is slower going down the road of massed strike drones is we are technologic enough to always achieve air supremacy. In the terms of war when you achieve air supremacy a drone becomes far less useful. Less useful means less development but it does not mean no development.

Something like spiderweb is fantastic to see on an actual battlefield but the idea and functions for it have been in development for similar systems since perdix and earlier. This doesn’t devalue Spiderweb due to the fact that Perdix was done in control and spiderweb was not but it is more to point out that it could have been done earlier had there been a battlefield to need it.

Does Ukraine have much to offer the world of drone warfare? Oh yes absolutely many people are very excited to talk to their teams both users and designers. Just don’t think it’s revolutionary. Temper the expectation and let the already good reality be the norm. Ukraine will be a future drone hub. Millions around the world will be kept safer due to Ukraines drones.

If USA follows trough with that, it would be more of political than financial deal.

      A very welcomed move.

There’s nothing wrong or mercantile about allies collaborating on the best methods of killing fascists. It comes to free people as naturally as breathing.

Well sure Ukraine could try to sell their tech for extremely high prices. It will be easily deducted from the money donated to Ukraine by the EU. Only the US should pay in full because the US doesn’t donate squat
